Nintendo’s newest handheld collected here

Sunday Roundup: 8/12/12

This might be a record, folks. I don’t think I’ve every purchased this many games in one week. Not only that, but several of these games are highlights. Some are special because they are near and dear to my heart, some are special because they are hard to find gems, and some still are special because I was able to score them for a ridiculously good price. And I bought some crappy games for good measure. Come on, you didn’t think I’d leave you with your mouth hanging open with every game I bought, did you?

Review: Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure

I wish we could solve all our problems by dancing them away like in Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure. Forgot my money at home and need to pay a bill? Just dance and serve food. Need to enter your dog in the dog show but missed the deadline? Well just bark in rhythm with a poodle to gain entrance. Or my favorite, if you’ve found yourself outside of a prestigious event in Paris, improperly dressed, and without a ticket for admission, simply play a few chords on the violin and bam, you’re in. Unfortunately our world isn’t full of that much pizzazz but at least we now have Rhythm King & the Emperor’s Treasure to play on our 3DS’. (more…)

Now Playing: Rhythm Thief & The Emperor’s Treasure

A little bit Elite Beat Agents, a little bit Professor Layton, and a good sense of originality and you’ve got Sega’s new 3DS title Rhythm Thief & The Emperor’s Treasure. Unfortunately I’ve missed out on Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy so far (though I will purchase that bad boy soon), bu thankfully this second 3DS exclusive rhythm game has kept my attention these past few days. Here’s what Rhythm Thief has going for it so far…

What could be better than finding a fantastic gaming deal at Goodwill?

Finding TWO fantastic gaming deals at Goodwill in one week!

Last week’s protip was about hitting up thrift stores to score good games at low prices. This week’s protip is a reiteration of a past tip: always look at thrift stores.

Quick Hits: Nintendo 3DS Demos

Demos have been around for years, but they are strangely completely new to Nintendo. The 3DS got it’s first demo in January with Resident Evil: Revelations, one that I skimped on completely, but this week there were too many for me to pass up. Since they are only demos there wasn’t a significant amount of gameplay to each game, but there was enough to get me excited (or glad I didn’t get the game in one case), which is what a good demo should do. Let’s take a look at each demo one by one. (more…)

Sunday Roundup: 7/1/12

Here’s a pro tip that I just learned this week:

Pawn shops are good places to look for games.

There has been a pawn shop in my hometown for years, and I have never managed to venture inside it until last week (Wednesday, to be precise). And I found that not only did they have a healthy selection of vintage coins and jewelry, but also a nice selection of video games. And you know what, most of them were marked at very fair and reasonable prices!

Top Ten E3 2012 Announcements

Now that E3 has come and gone, it’s time for just about every gaming journalists, websites, magazines, and anything covering the newest technology to rank the best of the best from this year’s convention. Seeing as only one of my previous predictions kind of came true, E3 was sort of straightforward and down to business. Still though, there’s plenty to be excited about this coming year, and these ten entries are more than enough to satiate even the hungriest of gamers.

This Week in Gaming News: 4/21/12 – 4/27/12

What did this week bring us in gaming news? Japan is getting some awesome 3DS games that look amazing, G4 loses its most notable personality, Nintendo says they’re giving Kirby a 20th birthday extravaganza, and there’s a Kinect game coming out that combines rhythm games with basketball dribbling.

And if that’s not enough for you, there’s also a blog out there with incredibly original Pokemon artwork.

Now Playing: Pushmo

It’s a rare time for me: there isn’t anything coming out in the foreseeable future that I actually want to play. So what does that mean? Downloading games I wanted to get long ago (and if I’m lucky, sifting through the backlog)! Pushmo is a 3DS exclusive puzzle game that has you pushing and pulling blocks as you hop your way to the goal. I’ve been able to spend some time with the game already, and I must say, as far as puzzle games go, this one has a lot going for it.

Review: Tales of the Abyss (3DS)

The 3DS is nearing its one year anniversary in March and what better way to celebrate the system’s launch than with a well regarded PS2 RPG port? Okay sure, there’s plenty of better way to celebrate I’m sure, but nonetheless Tales of the Abyss has been released for the 3DS. A cherished game on the PS2 from the Tales series, Tales of the Abyss offers up solid battle mechanics, a gripping story, and loveable characters. If you missed the first go around with this game and you own a 3DS, then here’s your chance to experience one of the better RPGs of the last decade.
