Sunday Roundup: 5/25/15

New Games (5-25-15)A random trip to Goodwill proved to be quite productive! There were several games at this location this week, and I’m starting to think this is my go-to Goodwill store now. We also happened to stop by GameStop where the 4 for $10 sale was still going on. Even when there are only like, two games that I want, I still find a way to pick up the entire deal. I just wish every GameStop had all the games I want and not just a few, because this is causing me to buy games I don’t really need/want. But that’s really nothing new. (more…)

Sunday Roundup: 4/12/15

New Games (4-12-15)A bit late on getting this one out, but a great week nonetheless for games. After passing on a select few games during the tail end of GameStop’s Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal, I decided to drag myself back to the store to purchase what I honestly should have bought the first time. Sadly, and let this be a lesson, only one of the games from the trio I originally intended on picking up were still available. *sigh*

A preordered game arrived from Amazon this past week, as well as a random sealed PS2 game. Oh, and a very interesting find at Goodwill capped off the week.

Sunday Roundup: 4/5/15

New Games (4-5-15)Happy Easter everyone!

This week saw a collection of games from Goodwill, eBay, and GameStop. A few of those GameStop games were great finds: games I have wanted to play for a long time and games that were simply a steal for the price. Anytime I can find something at Goodwill is always a treat as well, and this there was even a surprise (literally!) in one of the games I bought. Lastly the games from eBay were part of a lot of loose DS games, but still included some swell finds for a sweet price. (more…)

Sunday Roundup: 3/22/15

New Games (3-22-150Laura had a long meeting for work and I had the day off, so the only natural thing to do was hunt for video games across the South Bay Area. I ended up stopping at two GameStops I’ve never been too before, both of which proved to be fruitful ventures, as well as a couple Goodwill locations, which were not as grand as past expeditions but still worthwhile. When all was said and done Laura’s dad asked me if I played all of these games, which sadly the answer is no. But I told him I was proud of the fact most all of them were $5 or less! Anyway, here’s this weeks roundup! (more…)

Top Ten Favorite Dance Dance Revolution Songs

DDR Konamix Logo

Though its popularity has waned in recent years, Konami’s Dance Dance Revolution franchise has seen numerous entries on literally every platform on the market. It also seemingly single handedly saved arcades from total annilhilation: or at least it staved off their downfall for a few more years. For myself, DDR was a way of life in high school. A group of my friends and I would play every day (no exaggeration there, we’d literally play every day), oftentimes directly after a swim practice or other school event. We even had a small rivalry going with another group of DDR-players at the arcades and in school! While I deemed myself good at the game, I was never anywhere near a competitive level, with even my friends topping me at every corner. Regardless, Dance Dance Revolution made up a large part of my gaming years. I’ve been thinking about the game recently, after picking up a random game in the series, and that got me thinking about my all-time favorite songs from the series. Now, I’ve written a lot of articles on this blog about top tens and whatnot, but nothing has been as challenging to narrow down to just ten than this list! It was tough, but I managed to whittle down all the songs I’ve danced to to just ten, and here they are, my top ten favorite DDR songs! (more…)

Rare and Obscure Video Game Peripherals

SONY DSC

As long as there have been video games, there has been video game peripherals. Used to simulate, compliment, supplement, or straight up change the way we play a game, peripherals are one of the most hit or miss aspects of gaming culture. After the success of the Wii there were dozens upon dozens of totally useless peripherals to waste your money. While the onslaught of plastic is (hopefully) behind us, there are still game peripherals being released. While successes and failures are bound to happen across the board, the obscurity and rarity of some of these devices can fluctuate regardless of quality. Here are some of my favorite peripherals I’m still on the hunt for, as well as a few of the more obscure or bizarre entries into the gaming peripheral market. (more…)

Sunday Roundup: 2/8/15

New Games (2-8-15)Good lord, when stores have sales I tend to go crazy! This time around, Space Cat, a local used game store, moved locations to a bigger yet somehow more cramped space, and to commemorate the transition offered 50% off their used games under $9.99! I’m sure you can tell I picked up a lot of titles. What was doubly great about this deal however was the fact that a lot of games I previously passed on during my past visits to the store were still there, and now they’re even cheaper! Those account for a lot of the pickups this week. There was also a random visit to a board game selling couple on Craigslist that lead to a new Wii Fit as well as a very successful trip to Mountain View’s GameStop! And any week I can scrounge up a Sega Saturn game is a good week, so throw that onto the pile for this post as well! (more…)

Sunday Roundup: 1/25/15

New Games (1-25-15)A massive haul from several Goodwill’s around the area helped to make this first official Sunday Roundup of 2015 a big one. There isn’t anything extraordinary in the haul this week, but there are some fun titles and some titles I’ve been sitting on for a long time. I also continued the trend of buying the entire Tony Hawk’s series someone keeps donating. Eventually I’ll run out of games/consoles I don’t have yet, so I’ll need to think of something else to do in the meantime.  (more…)

Top Ten Pick Ups of 2014

Lost in Shadow CoverIn lieu of the usual Yearly Roundup, where I recount every game added to the collection over the past year, this year I’ve decided to do something different. As with every year here on SlickGaming there are many excellent finds and surprising deals on video games each and ever month, and I’ve always had a blast sharing them all with you. But now it’s time to look at the best of the best from 2014. I purchase a lot of games that are, for better or worse, padding to the collection. Now it’s time to look past those and determine the best, most exciting, and generally awesome finds of the last year. The following games (or groups of games) were the most impressive additions to the catalog in 2014. They’re not necessarily the rarest or most hard to find, but rather the most memorable pickups and greatest deals. (more…)

Sunday Roundup: 12/28/14

Mario Bros ChristmasI’m late on getting this Christmas themed Sunday Roundup out, but after the holiday itself, and the craziness that was my job, followed by the fun times had on New Year’s Eve, and then a week long vacation in Las Vegas and getting to see the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show, I barley had any time to write! Because of that, I have actually combined the last three weeks into this one Roundup. Honestly, it really just contains the games from the holidays, as I didn’t buy but one game afterward, but to be perfectly fair, you all know. Also, this is the last Roundup of 2014! And I have to say, it was an exceptional way to end the year indeed! (more…)
