Sony’s current console and all it’s glory
For the past seven or so years, I have been saving the points under the caps of Coca-Cola beverages to use with their My Coke Rewards program. Initially I started saving the codes because I saw that there were some Wii games available and thought, “I drink enough pop, I can start saving!” So after several years of saving points I managed to garner enough points to purchase some SkullCandy ear buds, a few gift cards for flowers to give to my girlfriend, plenty of free photographs, and, most recently, a GameStop gift card! I don’t know why, but I’ve been itching to spend my money lately (Perhaps because with my new job I’m making more money than I ever have before). So with a fresh $20 gift card in my hand, I went shopping.

Something must have been burning a hole in my pocket because I spent quite a few dollars on games this week. I say something because it’s not like I was sitting on a pile of money that I could spend willy nilly on whatever I wanted. At least I can take solace in knowing that I bought these games on sale and saved a few bucks that way. Yeah, we’ll go with that…

Brawlers, beat-em ups, side-scrollers (to an extent), and just plain arcade. Whatever you label the genre one thing is for sure: there are a ton of them out there!
Since I started playing video games on the NES there have been side-scrolling beat-em ups. My beginnings were with the Double Dragon series on the NES, which then evolved into the Genesis classics Golden Axe I and II. The love affair took off from there, with every generation producing unique and worthwhile entries in the genre. Though there has been a decline with the recent consoles, a spare brawler rises out of the ashes of nostalgia and captures my heart all over again. The following games aren’t in any sort of order. They’re all just games that are entirely worth your time.

Multiplayer usually plays second fiddle to character progression and storyline in RPGs. Games like Castle Crashers and Dungeon Defenders are the exception to the rule, offering a solid RPG experience while giving players mountains of replayability with friends. These multiplayer romps are few and far between, and the ones worth your time even less so. Put together the addictiveness of a good co-op RPG with breathtaking visuals and a deep leveling and combat system and you have the trimmings for the next great action RPG.
Enter Dragon’s Crown, the newest RPG from Atlus and Vanillaware. Dragon’s Crown is an action RPG that successfully manages to not only play well, but be incredibly fun with friends and look damn good while doing it. (more…)
No new games this week, but I have uploaded a pair of videos going over each new game I came across over the last month or so. You should check…
A trip back to Indiana for a wedding yielded great benefits for my collection. A trip to the local game store in Michigan City, followed by a visit to the oh so lucrative Disc Replay in Merrillville meant plenty of games were found in this the end of July. Oh, and a game from GameStop thrown in for good measure!!

Wow, it’s been quite some time since the last Sunday Roundup! I believe one month might be a record for a draught between entries, but seeing as the last one was extravagant and this one is full of quality games and deals, I think the wait is justified. This week’s games come to us from a dying Blockbuster Video. It’s always sad to see a store closing for good, but honestly I was surprised there were any Blockbuster’s still around. On top of that, this store looked crazy old, like it had been around for decades. Anyway, a few good games this week, and all of them still newish.
