Sony’s current console and all it’s glory

Top Ten E3 2013 Announcements and Stories

E3 2013 LogoE3 2013 has come and gone. By many standards it was what we’d come to expect from the expo: new game announcements, news on all kinds of projects, and some exclusive trailers, demos, and videos. But just about everyone can agree that this year’s E3 went above and beyond the expectations of most in attendance. It wasn’t just about the games this year: it was about the consoles and how they affect the gamers. It was about a change in the way we game and how our hobby will change moving forward. It was about publishers making games that gamers wanted to play. And above all, it was about glorifying our hobby and giving us an undeniable outlet to look at and say without wavering that we’re proud to be gamers. These ten announcements are just the tip of the events that made E3 2013 so memorable, and what you should be most excited for. (more…)

E3 2013 Gameplay and Trailer Extravaganza

E3 2013 Logo Day 4The final day of the 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo has come to an end. Every E3 supplies us with thrills and excitement over upcoming games, newly announced IPs, and titles that we otherwise would have never heard of before. With the addition this year of the new consoles (the Xbox One and PlayStation 4) and the mountains of talk and news they brought, this year’s E3 felt like a rollercoaster ride that was nothing but ups. Most of the news has died down as the show has dwindled to its last day, so I’m going to highlight a few games that stood out at this years show, and present you with gameplay trailers, content videos, and even some demos of the games that were shown off on the floor. If you can’t make it to E3 (one day I’ll make it there!) then this is your best shot of experiencing what it’s like in the madness. (more…)

E3 2013 Day 3 Recap

E3 2013 Logo Day 3Just one day left for this year’s E3! The major press conferences are over, so we can assume that there won’t be any more surprises this year (which is always sad, but there is so much to be happy about already!). With today over and tomorrow being the last for this year’s expo, most outlets are playing demons, interviewing developers, and finding out a few extra details about games and consoles. Tomorrow I’ll wrap up with a bunch of trailers, gameplay vids, and more, but for today, eat up these fine morsels of gaming goodness!

E3 2013 Day 2 Recap

E3 2013 Logo Day 2Nintendo held their “Press Conference” for E3 this year via a new Nintendo Direct video. Though it lacked the on-stage flair many E3 press conferences ooze, it still provided us with plenty of new games and announcements, with the top of the list being news about the next Super Smash Bros. title. Today was technically the first day of the actual expo, so we were also given a lot of hands-on impressions and demos, as well as some new gameplay trailers and info on both games and systems.

Sunday Roundup: 3/24/13

New Games (3-24-13)There was a 20% off sale at a local game store this week, and seeing as this will likely be the last real time I am able to go there, I had to take advantage. I also decided that since I may or may not ever find a store that sells Sega Saturn games I should pick up one last classic game for the console. And then that same day I happened into a Best Buy store and noticed they had a makeshift sign that read, “Games on sale this week.” Hmm, interesting… perhaps I should actually considering going back there. Review: Capcom Arcade Cabinet

Capcom Arcade Cabinet ArtCapcom is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Thirty years of video games from one of the world’s most well known game developers. In those three decades we’ve seen bona fide classics including Street Fighter, Mega Man, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and that’s only naming a few. What better way to honor Capcom’s storied history than by reliving some of the Japanese company’s earliest arcade titles? Capcom Arcade Cabinet is no mere collection of retro arcade games, but rather a platform to rekindle the feeling of being in an arcade in the 80s as well as open up these classic games for a new generation to enjoy. Yearly Roundup: 2012

New Games (8-26-12)Another year draws to a close and 2013 is right in front of us. What better way to look back on the year that was 2012 than reliving each and every game purchase of the year! You may recall last year I did something very similar at the end of the year, but this time around it’s a bit more special. 2012 was Slick Gaming’s first full calendar year being a live blog (a feat I still can’t grasp entirely). That means a lot of things, like more posts and features than before, but it also means an entire year’s worth of new games chronicled in the Sunday Roundup feature. Let’s start out in January and take a look back at the year in games! (more…)

Review: Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse

Family Guy Back to the Multiverse CoverRemember that one episode of Family Guy where Stewie and Brian go to a whole bunch of different universes where one distinct detail is different, like if the show were animated like a Disney cartoon, or if dogs had humans as pets? Activision sure hopes you do, because there’s an entire game surrounding that concept. Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse captures the highs and lows of the TV series it’s based on, as well as all the negative connotations one usually associates with a video game based on a show.  Uninspired gameplay, recycled jokes, and incredibly offensive humor ensure the stereotype persists.

Sunday Roundup: 11/25/12

Miss a few weeks of the Sunday Roundup and I’ve got to get back in a big way I suppose. I knew there were some great game deals out there for Black Friday at big retailers like Best Buy, Amazon.com, and Wal-Mart, but in the confusion and craziness that is the kickoff of the holiday shopping season, I completely looked past a local store that just so happens to sell video games from decades past. And did I luck out by checking their sales as well. Let’s just say that 20% off and buy 1 get 1 sales make me a happy collector!
