Yearly Roundup: 2013

New Games (4-7-13)Another full year of game collecting has come to a close. While I don’t think 2013 stacked up as much as 2012 (in terms of amount of games added), 2013 still gave me dozens of great new games to play and cherish. I picked up a brand new console in 2013 with the Wii U, and even managed to snag a few new Sega Saturn and original Xbox games as well. This was also a strong year for downloadable games for me, especially for review on the 3DS, so a lot of games I’d have loved to own I only have in digital form. Sad, but not the worst thing that could happen. Without further adieu, here are the games of 2013:

Sunday Roundup: 11/24/13 – The Wii U Edition

New Games (11-24-13)It finally happened:

I bought a Wii U!!

And with some pretty great deals surrounding it: I was able to score the Legend of Zelda Special Edition system for nearly $75 off, as well as snag some cheap, brand new games!

And what could make this week even more awesome? Getting a trio of Saturn games off eBay, of course!! Winners all around!! More exclamation points!!! (more…)

Worth Playing vol. 6: The Brawler Bunch

Double Dragon II ArtBrawlers, beat-em ups, side-scrollers (to an extent), and just plain arcade. Whatever you label the genre one thing is for sure: there are a ton of them out there!

Since I started playing video games on the NES there have been side-scrolling beat-em ups. My beginnings were with the Double Dragon series on the NES, which then evolved into the Genesis classics Golden Axe I and II. The love affair took off from there, with every generation producing unique and worthwhile entries in the genre. Though there has been a decline with the recent consoles, a spare brawler rises out of the ashes of nostalgia and captures my heart all over again. The following games aren’t in any sort of order. They’re all just games that are entirely worth your time.

Sunday Roundup: 5/19/13

New Games (5-19-13)Special thanks go out this week to JJ I met over at Splitkick. He pointed me toward a special 25% off sale at the game store eStarland (who also have a dated looking website to order games).

I went nuts.

On top of that, I picked up a few games off Craigslist that I’ve been looking to purchase for years. Seriously, years! And each of them were fantastic prices. Read on, as there are quite a few games this week to browse.

Sunday Roundup: 4/7/13

New Games (4-7-13)Well folks, this is it. My very last Sunday Roundup whilst living in the wonderful state of Indiana. This coming Friday I’ll be making my move across the country to live in sunny California! Seeing as this week was the last full week I’d be in the Hoosier state, I decided to take it upon myself to go out with a bang. Well, at least in the video game collecting department. Rather than himming and hawing over a few dollars for a game, if I saw a game I wanted I just bought it. There aren’t too many great stores in the area I’m moving to in Cali, so I decided to take advantage of the wonderful selection I have here in Indiana one more time. So let’s get this thing started, shall we?

Sunday Roundup: 3/24/13

New Games (3-24-13)There was a 20% off sale at a local game store this week, and seeing as this will likely be the last real time I am able to go there, I had to take advantage. I also decided that since I may or may not ever find a store that sells Sega Saturn games I should pick up one last classic game for the console. And then that same day I happened into a Best Buy store and noticed they had a makeshift sign that read, “Games on sale this week.” Hmm, interesting… perhaps I should actually considering going back there. Yearly Roundup: 2012

New Games (8-26-12)Another year draws to a close and 2013 is right in front of us. What better way to look back on the year that was 2012 than reliving each and every game purchase of the year! You may recall last year I did something very similar at the end of the year, but this time around it’s a bit more special. 2012 was Slick Gaming’s first full calendar year being a live blog (a feat I still can’t grasp entirely). That means a lot of things, like more posts and features than before, but it also means an entire year’s worth of new games chronicled in the Sunday Roundup feature. Sunday Roundup: 12/30/12

New Games (12-30-12)Here it is. The final Sunday Roundup of the year.

And what a year it’s been. dozens of great games came out in 2012 (with some included in this week’s Roundup!), and even more stellar games came my way this year as well.
