Sunday Roundup: 10/13/13

New Games (10-13-13)A scheduling conflict prevented me last week from posting my new games added to my collection. This week however I had no excuse to miss the weekly reporting so I present to you essentially two weeks of games thrown into one! And, for a little extra kick, there’s even a single game I received three weeks prior that I’m writing about just for good measure. Huzzah!

Sunday Roundup: 9/22/13

New Games (9-22-13)For the past seven or so years, I have been saving the points under the caps of Coca-Cola beverages to use with their My Coke Rewards program. Initially I started saving the codes because I saw that there were some Wii games available and thought, “I drink enough pop, I can start saving!” So after several years of saving points I managed to garner enough points to purchase some SkullCandy ear buds, a few gift cards for flowers to give to my girlfriend, plenty of free photographs, and, most recently, a GameStop gift card! I don’t know why, but I’ve been itching to spend my money lately (Perhaps because with my new job I’m making more money than I ever have before). So with a fresh $20 gift card in my hand, I went shopping.

Sunday Roundup: 9/8/13

New Games (9-8-13)I had to work at a different location this past week and it was in a large complex that also happened to contain a rather large GameStop. If you recall last week’s Sunday Roundup you’ll remember that a few sales were happening at the chain, namely a Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal and a 3 for $10 sale. Seeing as Monday was a holiday most of those deals were extended through Labor Day, so I took advantage once again! Honestly through, these were extremely good finds that I may have just bought for the hell of it without any sale. And I must say, my Wii collection has been steadily growing the past months and it’s starting to get filled with some quality titles! Go watch my Game Hunter video on the Wii to learn why that’s been happening. (more…)

Sunday Roundup: 9/1/13

New Games (9-1-13)Something must have been burning a hole in my pocket because I spent quite a few dollars on games this week. I say something because it’s not like I was sitting on a pile of money that I could spend willy nilly on whatever I wanted. At least I can take solace in knowing that I bought these games on sale and saved a few bucks that way. Yeah, we’ll go with that…

Worth Playing vol. 6: The Brawler Bunch

Double Dragon II ArtBrawlers, beat-em ups, side-scrollers (to an extent), and just plain arcade. Whatever you label the genre one thing is for sure: there are a ton of them out there!

Since I started playing video games on the NES there have been side-scrolling beat-em ups. My beginnings were with the Double Dragon series on the NES, which then evolved into the Genesis classics Golden Axe I and II. The love affair took off from there, with every generation producing unique and worthwhile entries in the genre. Though there has been a decline with the recent consoles, a spare brawler rises out of the ashes of nostalgia and captures my heart all over again. The following games aren’t in any sort of order. They’re all just games that are entirely worth your time.

Sunday Roundup: 7/14/13

New Games (7-14-13)Two new stores to find retro games! One store was brand new as of this week, and really isn’t a store. It’s more of just some guy that tacked on his game collection to an existing hobby game store. Nonetheless, there were a few titles there that caught my eye. The second store was a used music/movies/games store that I saw from the highway and decided to stop in and look around. Surprisingly there were games aplenty at this place, including a Dreamcast game of all things! Well, let’s get this thing underway!

Top Ten E3 2013 Announcements and Stories

E3 2013 LogoE3 2013 has come and gone. By many standards it was what we’d come to expect from the expo: new game announcements, news on all kinds of projects, and some exclusive trailers, demos, and videos. But just about everyone can agree that this year’s E3 went above and beyond the expectations of most in attendance. It wasn’t just about the games this year: it was about the consoles and how they affect the gamers. It was about a change in the way we game and how our hobby will change moving forward. It was about publishers making games that gamers wanted to play. And above all, it was about glorifying our hobby and giving us an undeniable outlet to look at and say without wavering that we’re proud to be gamers. These ten announcements are just the tip of the events that made E3 2013 so memorable, and what you should be most excited for. (more…)
