The Question of Games Being Ported to iOS: Good or Bad?

Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android operating systems for mobile devices like smartphones and iPads/iPhones/iPod Touches have been getting a steady stream of games since their inception. It’s a guarantee that each week, if not each day, a new game or two will be released for the portable devices. Whether or not those games are worthwhile is an entirely different story. But what about those instances where the games being released are ports of actual console video games? It’s been happening more and more recently, and it has gotten me to think about just what that means to you and I as gamers, as well as to the publishers and developers of said games.

Review: Rock Band Blitz

Be honest: when was the last time you sat down and played a Rock Band/Guitar Hero game? If you’re like me, and undoubtedly countless other gamers, then your plastic instruments have been collecting dust somewhere, not nearly getting as much love as they use to just a couple short years ago. Well Harmonix, the creators of Rock Band, had that in mind when coming up with the newest iteration of their music simulator. Rock Band Blitz is a dramatic change for the series that gives gamers a different approach to the rhythm genre. (more…)

Sunday Roundup: 8/12/12

This might be a record, folks. I don’t think I’ve every purchased this many games in one week. Not only that, but several of these games are highlights. Some are special because they are near and dear to my heart, some are special because they are hard to find gems, and some still are special because I was able to score them for a ridiculously good price. And I bought some crappy games for good measure. Come on, you didn’t think I’d leave you with your mouth hanging open with every game I bought, did you?

Jason & Laura Play – Left 4 Dead 2: Cold Stream Act 1

With the recent release of Valve’s latest (and possibly) last DLC pack for Left 4 Dead 2, I decided to once again enter the surprisingly enjoyable world of the zombie apocalypse on my Xbox 360. But this time I brought a friend to tag along. This is the first time either of us have played the Cold Stream campaign setting, so everything is fresh and true. And our shooting is way, WAY off. Enjoy! (more…)

Review: Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD

Tony Hawk has been synonymous with crappy peripherals and boring gameplay lately. The golden years of the Tony Hawk franchise of skateboarding games were more than a decade ago with the release of the first two games (and some can argue the third and fourth), but since then the series has taken a sharp turn for the worse. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD is the first attempt to amend the issue by bringing back what made the first two games successful while improving the game’s visuals and adding online play.

Sunday Roundup: 7/1/12

Here’s a pro tip that I just learned this week:

Pawn shops are good places to look for games.

There has been a pawn shop in my hometown for years, and I have never managed to venture inside it until last week (Wednesday, to be precise). And I found that not only did they have a healthy selection of vintage coins and jewelry, but also a nice selection of video games. And you know what, most of them were marked at very fair and reasonable prices!

Top Ten E3 2012 Announcements

Now that E3 has come and gone, it’s time for just about every gaming journalists, websites, magazines, and anything covering the newest technology to rank the best of the best from this year’s convention. Seeing as only one of my previous predictions kind of came true, E3 was sort of straightforward and down to business. Still though, there’s plenty to be excited about this coming year, and these ten entries are more than enough to satiate even the hungriest of gamers.

Review: Fable Heroes

When thinking of the Fable series a few elements come to mind: your actions having a great impact on the story; a beautiful, changing world for you to explore and live in; and a satisfying feeling once you’ve completed your epic journey. Unfortunately these features are noticeably absent from Fable Heroes, a spinoff hack-and-slash downloadable title for the Xbox 360.

What Fable Heroes does offer is an accessible multiplayer driven experience that any gamer can pick up and play.
