The Splatoon 2 Splatfest World Premiere

The Nintendo Switch is in full swing, riding off its successful launch and followup by games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as well as the new IP Arms. One of the biggest draws for the console for many gamers was the sequel to Wii U sensation Splatoon. Just a week away from release, Nintendo offered all Switch owners a chance to demo the game with the Splatoon 2 Splatfest World Premiere. A glorified demo, the Splatfest World Premiere showcased what the larger game would bring, albeit in tiny, oftentimes familiar chunks. (more…)

The Simplicity of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia

I’ve spent a few weeks with the newest 3DS Fire Emblem and while I would still consider myself a newcomer to the series (having only played the previous two 3DS entries, Awakening and Fates: Birthright), I can still see some major differences with Shadows of ValentiaFire Emblem fans who still haven’t taken the new game for a spin can rest assured it is a lot more of what you’d want, and arguably a better game than Fates in some instances, but some interesting mechanics and themes have come up that I was surprised to see. Sunday Roundup: 4/23/17

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these! The reason behind that is two-fold: unfortunately I just haven’t found the time to write much, but worse I haven’t scrounged up any video games lately! Sure, there’s some here and there pickups like Persona 5 and Story of Seasons, but nothing noteworthy. Oh, and I did get a Nintendo Switch, which is the reason behind the multiple-piece Nintendo Retrospective. Moving forward, let’s hope I have more weeks like this, where I found a couple of great games and had a decent work to boot! (more…)

Nintendo Retrospective: The Nintendo Gamecube

With 3D gaming fully ushered in, thanks in-part to the N64, Nintendo was ready to start upping their game with their new console. The Gamecube not only looked nicer than the fat N64, it had a much more powerful processor capable of putting more polygons on screen. Basically, the games could look prettier, something that’s been commonplace these past few years among video game console launches. But while the Nintendo 64 was innovative and had a deep library of classics, the Gamecube suffered from a smaller collection of titles and some backlash from longtime Nintendo fans. (more…)

Nintendo Retrospective: The Nintendo 64

While Sony was off doing their thing, Sega got kind of weird with their surplus of consoles, and other companies were making consoles we never speak of, Nintendo dropped their follow-up to the Super NES in 1996. Bringing full 3D graphics, a brand new controller complete with the first-of-its-kind analog stick right in the center, support for a brand new rumble feature, and a bevy of cliche 90s color options, the Nintendo 64 was by far the greatest video game console I had ever played. First Impressions: The Neo Geo Pocket Color

Everyone’s talking about their brand new Nintendo Switch, and here I am getting all excited for the Neo Geo Pocket Color. Granted, I was able to secure a Switch too, but hot damn, a NEO GEO POCKET COLOR! I’ve seriously been yearning for one of these retro handhelds for years, and someone on Craigslist finally let one go for a wonderful price. I picked up games for the system despite not even owning it, but now I’ve finally had a chance to sit down and play what some consider the best (at the time) handheld console out there!

Early Impression: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

What was meant to be the Wii U’s swan song (which it still kind of is, I guess) also happens to be the Nintendo Switch’s biggest reason to abandon the Wii U entirely and dive right in the the newest console. That’s just what I did when I secured my Switch last week, and I’ve been playing Breath of the Wild almost nonstop since. There are plenty of stellar reviews out there, and I read something like over 80% of Switch users also bought BotW, which is an astounding attachment rate, but is the hype behind the latest Zelda game warranted?
