Top Ten Classic Robot Masters

Mega Man III Stage SelectWith all the talk recently about Keiji Inafune’s hugely successful Kickstarter for Might No. 9, I have been doing a lot of recollecting about Mega Man. The Blue Bomber has always had a very special place in my heart, as many of you will already know should you follow this blog or listen to the Recurring Bosscast. I’ve played most all of the classic Mega Man games and was naturally more than excited when this spiritual successor by the original creator turned up on Kickstarter. All the thinking about Mega Man and his storied past got me on a mental spree about which were my favorite Robot Masters. With dozens to choose from, narrowing down the list to just ten was certainly not easy. Review: Foul Play

Foul Play LogoGather ‘round my friends, and let’s listen to the gentlemanly tales of Baron Dashforth and his companion Mr. Scampwick. Stories full of skullduggery, malicious villains, and the most treacherous foe of all… repetition! Foul Play is a side scrolling beat ‘em up disguised as a theatre performance. While some innovative ideas separate the game from others in its genre, Foul Play is held back from greatness by simple combat and repetitive gameplay. (more…)

Sunday Roundup: 9/22/13

New Games (9-22-13)For the past seven or so years, I have been saving the points under the caps of Coca-Cola beverages to use with their My Coke Rewards program. Initially I started saving the codes because I saw that there were some Wii games available and thought, “I drink enough pop, I can start saving!” So after several years of saving points I managed to garner enough points to purchase some SkullCandy ear buds, a few gift cards for flowers to give to my girlfriend, plenty of free photographs, and, most recently, a GameStop gift card! I don’t know why, but I’ve been itching to spend my money lately (Perhaps because with my new job I’m making more money than I ever have before). So with a fresh $20 gift card in my hand, I went shopping.

Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

untitledWhen referencing the greatest beat ‘em ups of all time, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game inevitably shows up on the list. Whether it’s the excellent Arcade Game or Turtles in Time, chances are Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael make the cut.—so it makes sense people get excited when a new TMNT-themed brawler is announced. Based on the Nickelodeon animated series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is the newest game to feature the heroes—and while die hard Turtle fanatics will love the adherence to the source material, sloppy controls, glitches, and many minor nuisances keep the game from being as memorable an experience as the earlier games. Sunday Roundup: 9/8/13

New Games (9-8-13)I had to work at a different location this past week and it was in a large complex that also happened to contain a rather large GameStop. If you recall last week’s Sunday Roundup you’ll remember that a few sales were happening at the chain, namely a Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal and a 3 for $10 sale. Seeing as Monday was a holiday most of those deals were extended through Labor Day, so I took advantage once again! Honestly through, these were extremely good finds that I may have just bought for the hell of it without any sale. And I must say, my Wii collection has been steadily growing the past months and it’s starting to get filled with some quality titles! Go watch my Game Hunter video on the Wii to learn why that’s been happening. (more…)

Review: New StreetPass Games

New StreetPass PlazaThe Nintendo 3DS has a basket full of features: it can display stereoscopic 3D images without the use of glasses, the system is capable of handling software that is visually comparable to the Wii, and it fits in your pocket. Perhaps the most underused (?) but most awesome features the system has is StreetPass. Tagging someone with the system’s detection ability and then playing a game with that person’s Mii character has always been fun, and getting bonus content in select 3DS games is even cooler. But with the addition of four brand new downloadable StreetPass games to play, Nintendo has made carrying your handheld with you even more exciting! Not all the bonus games are incredibly fun, but there’s enough content and enjoyment to be had to easily warrant a purchase. (more…)
