It was a relatively quiet week gaming news. So quiet in fact that I declare Pokemon/alpaca crossovers as news!
But on a more serious note, my mind was totally blown when I discovered you’re actually not supposed to play into an NES cartridge.
Mind.
Blow.
Games today are measured by a lot of criteria: quality of visuals, clarity of sound, ease of control, implementation of multiplayer, and the list goes on. It can be hard to measure a game solely by its gameplay with all these other portions jumping for your attention. Seldom a game comes out that strips all these distractions away and focuses entirely on solid, addictive gameplay. Colour Bind is a new PC indie game available on Steam that keeps the focus on puzzle solving and bold visuals, for better or for worse. (more…)
A short list of games but games that are amazing nonetheless. I have been busy this week and am currently still out of town on a vacation of sorts, but that didn’t stop me from picking up two new games this week. I need to clarify what “new” means though: One game is new in every sense of the word: it came out this week, I bought it, and it was wrapped in that plastic that is so satisfying to tear open. The other game, while also new in that it came out this week, is actually a collection of older titles and some other swag (if the picture hasn’t given it away yet). (more…)
I’m away on vacation this week, so I am in a bit of a bind for time in writing this week’s Gaming News feature. So as I have done in the past when time was against me, I will be giving headlines and snippets of gaming news this week instead of more fully fleshed out stories. So let us begin!
You might remember Billy and Jimmy Lee way back on the NES when they were delivering knees to the faces of countless Lindas and Abobos. Playing with a friend in the original Double Dragon and its sequels was many gamers’ first introduction to cooperative gameplay, but for as fun as those now retro games were there’s been very little of the Lee brothers for the past few generations of video games. WayForward is here to remedy that lack of ass-kicking with a brand new game for the series, Double Dragon: Neon. With enough new features and nostalgia to please any fan, Neon ignites a future for the series as bright as the title implies. (more…)
This has been a long time coming.
The Sega Saturn has been a distant dream of mine for several, several years. I had no trouble finding the system, in fact I’d say I’ve seen upwards of 10 or more in the wild, but for this reason or that, I never picked one up. Usually the culprit was price: either the console was too expensive or I just wasn’t in a state to buy anything at the time, let alone another game console for me to start a thriving collection.
But I would occasionally check eBay and peruse what people were selling their Saturn and games for, watching a spare auction to get a good price range. For more than five years I’d gander at prices and see Saturns go for hundreds with a few games and controllers (and a fair share of Panzer Dragoon Saga’s sell for over $200 bucks as well!).
But this past week, as luck would have it, everything necessary for me to buy a Sega Saturn fell into place: the right price range, the right games, I actually had extra cash, and some support from close friends and even my mom (of all people!) supported my decision. I was more than thrilled to get my first (yes, my FIRST) taste of the Saturn, and here are the games I was able to sink my hungry teeth into.
As you may have already known, Nintendo finally gave us the important Wii U news we’ve wanted for some time: a release date and a price. Being the respectable and lovable company they are, they also gave us a lot more WIi U news to whet our appetites even more, including brand new game announcements, new Wii U features, and information on upcoming games and release windows. So strap it in and enjoy this special Gaming News edition focusing entirely on the first console of the eighth generation of video games.
Some of you may already know that I’ve been reading a few video game themed comic books as of late. I wrote an article or two a few months back about some of the various Mega Man comics/mangas, and I am still reading and enjoying those series’. More recent Jsick news is that I’ve been reading and loving the old Sonic the Hedgehog comics by Archie. I have been wanting to play Brotherhood of Steel for ages. I can’t even tell you how excited I was to finally sit down and play this sucker. Perhaps I should have just left my experience with the game as an imagination, because what I played was a mediocre action RPG set (sort of) in the Fallout universe. At least it has co-op, right?
I thought I was working quite a lot lately, so when I finally got a day off I decided I owed it to myself to spend a little bit of this money I was earning. With that in mind I went a few towns over where they have a much nicer mall and shopping experience than my own city and found a few good deals. The best thing of all, aside from finding these games in great condition, was that I got them all for less than $20!
