Review: Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD

Tony Hawk has been synonymous with crappy peripherals and boring gameplay lately. The golden years of the Tony Hawk franchise of skateboarding games were more than a decade ago with the release of the first two games (and some can argue the third and fourth), but since then the series has taken a sharp turn for the worse. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD is the first attempt to amend the issue by bringing back what made the first two games successful while improving the game’s visuals and adding online play.

I haven’t played a Tony Hawk game that I really enjoyed since THPS3 back on the GameCube/PS2. Tony Hawk’s Underground just wasn’t fun. And ever since then I never touched a skating game.

Until now at least. THPS:HD is a good game for fans of the first two titles, and for those looking to have some arcade skating fun. Definitely worth a look.

I've been writing about video games for years and playing them even longer. You'll find me playing all types of games, old and new. Mega Man III is greater than Mega Man II.

Glad you dug this one more than I did. I thought the potential for an awesome game was there, but I just couldn’t get over the tweaked physics. The difference in controls between this and the original games is like night and day, especially after playing both back-to-back. Still, it was a fun rush of nostalgia, and I can’t complain about feeling like a teenager again.
