Sunday Roundup: 4/20/14

New Games (4-20-14)I was trying to think of some way to tie in Easter with this week’s roundup of games, but I couldn’t really think of any way ninjas or talking gorillas could be incorporated. I guess Mario (and to a lesser extent Wario) have some affiliation with Yoshi, who produces eggs by defeating enemies. I’m not going to dive any further into this failed analogy…

But I will tell you that a semi-sweet deal at GameStop lead me to these games. Usually the Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal is a great time for me to go nuts, but this weekend it was altered to only include games $20 or under. Kind of lame, but thankfully there are plenty of games under twenty bucks that I’d want to buy. Four, apparently!

Shinobi (3DS) CoverShinobi
3DS
Release Date: November 15th, 2011
Purchased at: GameStop (San Jose, CA – $8)

Not the greatest deal on this game, but it’s been nearly 2 years that I’ve been putting off this one. Honestly, I’m actually wanting to play it! The game has gameplay similar to the original Genesis games, which I’ve played in some way shape or form, and enjoyed. This particular copy of the game is in great condition as well, and helped out a friend take advantage of his own Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal 🙂 Games for all!

Donkey Kong Barrel Blast CoverDonkey Kong: Barrel Blast
Wii
Release Date: October 8th, 2007
Purchased at: GameStop (Cupertino, CA – $18)

Continuing the trend of picking up Wii games while they’re still abundant, this week starts off with Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast. A unique racing game that takes advantage of the Wii Remotes motion sensing abilities, Barrel Blast was a racer that I was mildly curious in when it came out, but wasn’t looking at buying all to much. Now that the Wii is out and the Wii U is in, the collector in me is saying I need to amass these Nintendo titles while I still can. Who knows, this one could be a great item in the future. It has the potential, I’d say.

Mario Super Sluggers CoverMario Super Sluggers
Wii
Release Date: August 25th, 2008
Purchased at: GameStop (Cupertino, CA – $18)

The Mario sports series is (no pun intended) hit or miss for me. There are some winners, like Mario Tennis and Mario Golf, but there are some that just didn’t do it for me like Mario Hoops and Super Mario Strikers. The latter aren’t all that bad but they just weren’t as fun for me. Enter Mario Super Sluggers, a baseball game featuring the Mushroom Kingdom crew and a sequel to the GameCube’s Mario Superstar Baseball. If memory serves me, I have played this game with my nephew some years back and enjoyed it, but I could be mistaken. Either way, this baseball game has big shoes to fill to become my favorite baseball game, let alone my favorite Mario sports series…

WarioWare Smooth Moves CoverWarioWare: Smooth Moves
Wii
Release Date: January 15th, 2007
Purchased at: GameStop (Cupertino, CA – FREE!)

Talk about a long time coming! I’ll frequently mention how I’ve been tracking games for extended amounts of time, even multiple years, before I finally secure a copy. Some of those games I’ve never played before, some I have and that’s why I’m hunting them. Perhaps the king of this “Played it now have to buy it” hunt is WarioWare: Smooth Moves. I played the game with friends on vacation for New Year’s 2008, and ever since then I have been looking for the game. I’ve found several copies, but they’ve either been too expensive or in poor condition, or the time just wasn’t right. It’s been seven years since I wanted the game, and it’s finally mine, complete and in great condition! I’m definitely going to pop this one in with some friends soon!

Laters,
Jsick
