Sunday Roundup: 7/14/13

New Games (7-14-13)Two new stores to find retro games! One store was brand new as of this week, and really isn’t a store. It’s more of just some guy that tacked on his game collection to an existing hobby game store. Nonetheless, there were a few titles there that caught my eye. The second store was a used music/movies/games store that I saw from the highway and decided to stop in and look around. Surprisingly there were games aplenty at this place, including a Dreamcast game of all things! Well, let’s get this thing underway!

Sunday Roundup: 6/30/13

New Games (6-30-13)Last Thursday was my birthday, and as such I received a few games from family members as gifts (as well as treated myself to a small something). I feel like being a game collector makes things a lot easier on those seeking to give me a present: you pretty much can’t go wrong buying a game or, better yet, gift card. Outside of the birthday happenings, a new game came in for review that I’m anxious to get to, if only I could put down Animal Crossing: New Leaf for more than a minute to play it!

Sunday Roundup: 6/23/13

New Games (6-23-13)

Wow, it’s been quite some time since the last Sunday Roundup! I believe one month might be a record for a draught between entries, but seeing as the last one was extravagant and this one is full of quality games and deals, I think the wait is justified. This week’s games come to us from a dying Blockbuster Video. It’s always sad to see a store closing for good, but honestly I was surprised there were any Blockbuster’s still around. On top of that, this store looked crazy old, like it had been around for decades. Anyway, a few good games this week, and all of them still newish.

Sunday Roundup: 5/19/13

New Games (5-19-13)Special thanks go out this week to JJ I met over at Splitkick. He pointed me toward a special 25% off sale at the game store eStarland (who also have a dated looking website to order games).

I went nuts.

On top of that, I picked up a few games off Craigslist that I’ve been looking to purchase for years. Seriously, years! And each of them were fantastic prices. Read on, as there are quite a few games this week to browse.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 There is no Knowledge That is Not PowerBoiling down game collecting to its core leaves you with the essential elements of the hobby. Of course procuring games is one of these said elements. Key to the success of any fruitful collector is knowledge. Sunday Roundup: 5/5/13

New Games (5-5-13)Rather than give you the full intro for the Sunday Roundup, I’m going to direct you to an article I wrote a while back about Goodwill. I’ve spoken at length about Goodwill and thrift shops being a game hunters friend. I’ve reminisced about how I found rare games or totally insane deals while sifting through the racks, and I’ve always accented these stories with the one or two exceptional finds I’ve found (i.e. Diablo on PS1). Well, I’m tacking on another title to that list this week!

A Very Long Overdue Sunday Roundup

New Games (4-28-13)For the better part of three weeks now I have been living in California! The move from Indiana had been planned for quite some time and I can finally say it’s done and over. A few hiccups aside, the transition has been mostly successful, and I’m finally starting to get into a new groove. Unfortunately while in this transition the blog has suffered from sparse updates and weak ones at that. But I’m here now to rectify this week’s glaring omission: The Sunday Roundup. Despite moving to a new place, I actually did manage to pick up new games (surprisingly I’ve procured new games each week I’ve been here). Without further delay, here are this week’s new games!

Game Hunter’s Journal: Pricing

Wario MoneyEvery video game collector has their own reasons for collecting games. For me personally it’s the thrill of owning a great title, preserving video games as an art form, and a more personal goal of simply owning every game released on the Sega Dreamcast. No matter what your reason or reasons may be for getting into game collecting, at some point you’re going to deal with money. Dollars and cents in the game collecting hobby mean more than just how much you spent on a game: it’s also the overall value, personal value, and current selling price. Here are some tips for pricing your collection and determining the best time to buy a game. (more…)
