E3 2013 Gameplay and Trailer Extravaganza

E3 2013 Logo Day 4The final day of the 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo has come to an end. Every E3 supplies us with thrills and excitement over upcoming games, newly announced IPs, and titles that we otherwise would have never heard of before. With the addition this year of the new consoles (the Xbox One and PlayStation 4) and the mountains of talk and news they brought, this year’s E3 felt like a rollercoaster ride that was nothing but ups. Most of the news has died down as the show has dwindled to its last day, so I’m going to highlight a few games that stood out at this years show, and present you with gameplay trailers, content videos, and even some demos of the games that were shown off on the floor. If you can’t make it to E3 (one day I’ll make it there!) then this is your best shot of experiencing what it’s like in the madness. (more…)

E3 2013 Day 2 Recap

E3 2013 Logo Day 2Nintendo held their “Press Conference” for E3 this year via a new Nintendo Direct video. Though it lacked the on-stage flair many E3 press conferences ooze, it still provided us with plenty of new games and announcements, with the top of the list being news about the next Super Smash Bros. title. Today was technically the first day of the actual expo, so we were also given a lot of hands-on impressions and demos, as well as some new gameplay trailers and info on both games and systems.

Mario and Donkey Kong’s Decades Long Battle

Mario and Donkey KongMario and Donkey Kong.
Two names synonomous with video games that have been around since before many gamers can even remember. Whether it’s Donkey Kong running through a jungle, Mario jumping over barrels, or the two of them racing go-karts, the Nintendo mascots have been locked in competition since the beginning of the Japanese game company’s storied history.
Since the release of 1981’s arcade classic title Donkey Kong, an oversized gorilla and an Italian plumber have been going at it for decades. Let’s take a look back at each and every video game featuring the duo going head-to-head. (more…)

Where is the Luigi Love?

Paper LuigiEveryone knows Mario.

He’s Nintendo’s mascot. He’s a portly plumber who wears a red shirt and denim overalls. He frequently travels the Mushroom Kingdom to thwart the evil Bowser’s plans and rescue Princess Peach. He’s an all around good guy who get’s a lot of play time in all things Nintendo.

And then there’s Luigi…

Review: Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon

Luigis Mansion Dark Moon CoverEveryone knows Mario’s skinner brother Luigi has always been in the portlier plumber’s shadow. Luigi has rarely stolen the spotlight for himself, even when he’s playing tennis, driving go-karts, or in the background of most of Mario’s outings. The Gamecube launch title Luigi’s Mansion was the green brother’s first real solo game, but since then Luigi has gone back to playing second fiddle to Mario. That is about to end with the release of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon on the 3DS.

Gaming News: 9/22/12 – 9/28/12

It was a relatively quiet week gaming news. So quiet in fact that I declare Pokemon/alpaca crossovers as news!

But on a more serious note, my mind was totally blown when I discovered you’re actually not supposed to play into an NES cartridge.

Mind.
Blow.

Now that E3 has come and gone, it’s time for just about every gaming journalists, websites, magazines, and anything covering the newest technology to rank the best of the best from this year’s convention. Still though, there’s plenty to be excited about this coming year, and these ten entries are more than enough to satiate even the hungriest of gamers.

Review: Mario Party 9

What a guy! Nintendo’s portly plumber has saved the Mushroom Kingdom dozens of times, rescued Princess Peach whenever she was in peril, and even let his brother share the limelight every once in awhile, and now he’s throwing yet another massive party for all to attend!

Mario Party 9 is the first game in the series to come out in over five years and mixes up the formula quite a bit, without sacrificing the core Mario Party feel. If you’re looking for a reason to turn on your Wii, this is the best excuse since Skyward Sword.

Review: Super Mario 3D Land (or Why You’ve Already Played This Game and Didn’t Even Know It)

You know what, I really don’t have to tell you why this game is good and deserves to be part of your 3DS library. Mario has hammered down the platforming genre all the way back to his original outings on the NES two and a half decades ago. And this game continues the tradition of innovative level design and genre elements.

Or does it?

Super Mario 3D Land is more of a throwback to older games than an entirely new title. Instead of giving you a review on why the game is great, I am going to point out everything I can remember about why this game is like many other Mario games in the past.
