Top Ten Video Game Franchises
"What's your favorite video game?" is a loaded question. How do you define what make a game "a good game?"

Fire Emblem Heroes is a game you could play every day for two years in a row. Apparently
Remember that time Ubisoft made a better Star Fox game than Nintendo?

As is the nature of many game collectors, we tend to get quite a few games in our libraries that don’t really have any saving graces to be there. Occasionally I’ll get a game I took a chance on that turns out to be decent if not good (Check out The Munchables on Wii for example). But more often than not we’ll take a chance on a random game and it turns out to be complete trash (Check out Dino Strike on Wii for example).
And then a game like M&M’s Beach Party shows up, and isn’t so terrible we can outright ridicule it, but it isn’t good so we can’t straight up recommend it either.
The struggles of game collecting, I’ll tell ya. (more…)
Another year and another E3 is almost upon us. As is tradition with this blog and many other outlets, it comes time for us to predict what we will see at the upcoming show. I know I always stretch really far in my predictions, but honestly if they would just make these things happen I could stop making these lists. Despite this, I kind of look forward to checking off dream boxes in my head, wishing on what could (and never will) be. Let’s jump right in with 2018’s Top Ten Dream E3 Predictions. (more…)
Recently I picked up Valkyria Chronicles Remastered for PS4 via the Humble Bundle. The tactical/strategy RPG from the PS3 era was always on my radar, and the positive reception the game garnered made me think, “Yeah, I’ll play that someday.” And then someday became hopefully this year. This year became this console. Then this console became an old console, and I never got around to it. This is the case all too frequently with me: I really want to play some game, but for one reason or another, they slip through the cracks. While there are tons of games I want to play, there are a few that I actually do want to play and never get around to them. Even better case in point: I’ve wanted to make a post such as this for awhile now, but never got around to it! So let’s discuss today in no particular order ten games I really wanted to play, but never actually have.
I had a very important decision to make: I was going to spend an entire week back home in Indiana and needed something to do on the flight and in the evenings. My trusty 3DS hadn’t gotten any love since Miitopia a few months back, and the Switch was sitting there looking pretty with Breath of the Wild and Golf Story. But which one should I take with me? The 3DS just saw Detective Pikachu release, and the Switch had Kirby Star Allies. Novelty got the best of me and I undocked my Switch, downloaded Kirby Star Allies and did that thing people do in the Switch commercials: played my Switch miles away from my actual home. (Side note, that was a pretty cool feature). But enough about me, let’s talk about Kirby and pals.
The 3DS is home to a gigantic library of role playing games, with mega franchises like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest being ported left and right, as well as new IPs such as Bravely Default making an impact on the scene as well. But you know what those RPGs are all missing? You. Not you as in you playing them. I mean you as in “you”, the actual person “you”, in the game itself. Or rather, more specifically the Miss version of yourself. Thankfully, Miitopia is here to let you indulge in all your RPG creation dreams. That is, if your dreams have a decidedly Nintendo feel to them.
The year of 2017 will go down as one of the best in all of gaming. From the release of Nintendo’s Switch console to the abundant amount of triple A titles worth your time released this calendar year, it’s hard to find any other time it’s been this great to be a gamer. As the year wraps up I wanted to look back at some of the games that shaped the past 12 months for me. While there were many games I played this year, only a select few stand out as truly awesome. This is one of them. (more…)
