Now Playing: A Bunch of Games on Twitch!

Zack and Wiki Banner

I have been admittedly stagnant on the updates here on SlickGaming, but that doesn’t mean I’m not playing, creating, or, furthermore, abandoning the ol’ blog. In fact, far from it! I’ve had my hands full with a lot of games as of late, and there are no signs of slowing down with tons of great new stuff coming in the future! Just to give a quick update (and personally allow myself to play catch up with… myself?), here’s what I’ve been spending my time on as of late. Now Playing: Christmas Games

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy CoverThere’s always video games on my Christmas list. Ever since I can remember I’ve always asked for a game (usually more than one) for Christmas. Year after year I am always delighted and truly grateful each time I pick up a package that’s in the shape of a game and wonder what it could be. Like a kid with any new toy, after I open up each present all I can think about is how fun it’s going to be to actually play with my new gift. This past week I’ve been lucky enough to not only have some time off work, but also extra free time to sit down and play several of these games already. Check out my latest Sunday Roundup to see each game I so graciously received as a gift for Christmas, but before then check out below how each game I’ve played so far is shaping up. Now Playing: Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask

And here we are again, playing yet another Professor Layton game. But this time there are some notable differences. Don’t worry, puzzle enthusiasts and top hat conniseurs, this is still the same Layton experience you’ve come to know and love, just in a different wrapper. I’ve delved deep into the game already, passing by three chapters in a night, with a handful more to go, and I’ve already got a lot to say about the game.

Now Playing: Retro City Rampage & Professor Layton and the Last Specter

Two new games that couldn’t be any different. The violent homage to every iconic game imaginable and the return of my favorite gaming duo all in one week! Trying to partition time between the two games is proving quite the daunting task, but don’t feel pity for me. In fact, you should feel the opposite, because each game is great in their respective right. If you don’t believe me, then you should probably keep reading and let me change your mind. Now Playing: Borderlands 2

Can you believe it’s been three years since the original Borderlands surprised us all with its addictive, loot-driven kill-fests? Three years since we opened the Vault, killed our first Badass Psycho, picked up our first corrosive pistol. For me at least the time doesn’t seem so long ago because I’ve been playing Borderlands and its DLC periodically ever since 2009. And how we’re here in 2012, with Borderlands 2 and all its glory. I’ve been playing daily since the game came out last week, and here’s what you need to know about the game so far.

Now Playing: Rhythm Thief & The Emperor’s Treasure

A little bit Elite Beat Agents, a little bit Professor Layton, and a good sense of originality and you’ve got Sega’s new 3DS title Rhythm Thief & The Emperor’s Treasure. Unfortunately I’ve missed out on Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy so far (though I will purchase that bad boy soon), bu thankfully this second 3DS exclusive rhythm game has kept my attention these past few days. Here’s what Rhythm Thief has going for it so far…

Now Playing: Fable Heroes

The Fable series of RPGs meets the cute world of… puppets, in Fable Heroes for the Xbox 360. Capturing the creative world Albion and translating it to a simple form of gameplay that even my nephew can understand, Fable Heroes is a side scrolling beat-em up with an RPG twist. I’ve spent several hours with the game and managed to get through everything the title has to offer, and now I’m here to pass that information on to you.

Now Playing: Diablo III (Beta)

With the upcoming release date of May 15th rapidly approaching, Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo III is sure to sell like wildfire when it launches on PC and Mac. To test the waters before launch day, Blizzard opened up the beta for everyone to experience this past weekend. And experience I have. The game is nearly completed, so what was available for gamers was a nearly finished product, albeit with some limitations and restrictions due to its beta status. Regardless, Diablo III had many good things going for it. And here they are for you all, just in case you missed your chance to slaughter countless demons a few weeks early.

Now Playing: Pushmo

It’s a rare time for me: there isn’t anything coming out in the foreseeable future that I actually want to play. So what does that mean? Downloading games I wanted to get long ago (and if I’m lucky, sifting through the backlog)! Pushmo is a 3DS exclusive puzzle game that has you pushing and pulling blocks as you hop your way to the goal. I’ve been able to spend some time with the game already, and I must say, as far as puzzle games go, this one has a lot going for it.

Now Playing: Grand Slam Tennis 2

I know I’m not the only one who enjoys a game of tennis, video or otherwise, but amongst my friends I’m pretty sure no one else likes tennis. For this reason or that, I find games like Grand Slam Tennis 2 to be wholly and intriguingly enthralling. Grand Slam Tennis 2 is EA’s newest addition to the tennis sim, and after Top Spin 4 it’s got big shoes to fill in terms of quality, depth, and playability. With John McEnroe’s gorgeous 80’s mug on the front cover, things are starting out fine already. Tennis, anyone?
