Worth Playing vol. 5: The Remake Rendition

Ken HD ComparisonThe remake.
It’s been around for years and it has become more common for a developer or publisher to remake or re-release their titles for a new generation to play and enjoy. Many of these games are vanilla ports of their original versions but there are a few that I can say are better than their originals. Needless to say these games are worth your time and will leave you feeling both excited and nostalgic.

Gaming News: 1/5/13

Ouya Home ScreenWhat does the first week of the new year have in store for video games?

Not too much, actually. Only a few stories tickled my fancy this week, and even those weren’t as grand as expected. I guess I was hoping 2013 would start out with some crazy cool announcement. Hmm… maybe later this year we will finally get Power Stone 3.

One can hope… (more…)

Gaming News: 10/13/12

Darkstalkers is coming back. Even if it is in a re-release, at least it’s something for fans to hold on to!

Also this week, there were ups and downs for Borderlands 2 players, including an early release of some DLC, a bug that erased some players game data, and then an announcement for even newer DLC next week!

And if you frequented SlickGaming this past week and enjoyed my Pokemon posts, then you’ll be entertained by a unique parody game by PETA concerning the ethical treatment of Pokemon animals. (more…)

The Problem with Pokemon: Ten Changes to Make For the Next Generation

The Pokemon series has a lot of tradition that has been seen in every game in the main series: you get one of three Pokemon at the beginning of the game, each of which is either a fire, grass, or water type; you battle through eight gym battles to collect badges; an evil organization is up to no good trying to harm everyone’s Pokemon; apparently you, a young child, are the only one who can somehow manage to collect and/or see every Pokemon in the land, even when capable adults can be found everywhere.

I’m not even going to fault the game for having some ridiculous Pokemon either (I’m looking at you, Trubbish!). I’m sure it’s hard to come up with new species of tiny creatures after you’ve run through the hundreds they have so far.  Here’s some examples of things that will make the next Pokemon game amazing: (more…)

Review: Pokemon Black/White Version 2

It’s taken 14 years for Nintendo to release a legitimate sequel to the popular Pokemon franchise, but the wait is finally over as Pokemon Black and White Versions 2 are upon us. Rather than release the now standard special edition of the current generation of Pokemon (i.e. Pokemon Platinum  being released after Diamond and Pearl), Black 2 and White 2 act as both remake and successor to 2009’s Pokemon Black and White. Catching Pokemon is as fun as ever, but the series is really starting to show its age. (more…)

Review: Pokemon Conquest

Swap out your pokedex for a katana and get ready for Pokemon Conquest, the newest game in the Pokemon series for the Nintendo DS. A crossover title incorporating the playful cheeriness of Pokemon with the tactical warmongering of Nobunaga’s Ambition, Pokemon Conquest hits all the right notes to deliver a satisfying strategy game for hardcore gamers, Poke-addicts, and newcomers alike. And to answer your question, no, you can’t cut Pikachu up to a bloody mess with twin katanas.

This Week in Gaming News: 4/21/12 – 4/27/12

What did this week bring us in gaming news? Japan is getting some awesome 3DS games that look amazing, G4 loses its most notable personality, Nintendo says they’re giving Kirby a 20th birthday extravaganza, and there’s a Kinect game coming out that combines rhythm games with basketball dribbling.

And if that’s not enough for you, there’s also a blog out there with incredibly original Pokemon artwork.
