Review: Orcs Must Die 2

It was just one year ago that gamers took up the blade staff and orchestrated the mass genocide of orcs in the original Orcs Must Die. Now gamers have an entirely new adventure to play through, with thousands more orcs to slay, new weapons and traps to utilize, and an entirely new, albeit familiar, character to play. Oh yeah, and something called co-op multiplayer. By tweaking a few details of the formula and keeping the core gameplay from the original game, Orcs Must Die 2 takes and already great game and makes it much better.

Review: Gungnir

Leave it to Atlus to give early adopters of Sony’s PS Vita a reason to play another PSP game. Gungnir is a brand new strategy title for Sony’s first handheld system. The combat is deep, the story grandiose, and the characters sport equally extravagant hairstyles and weapons. It’s everything a strategy fan would want, but it’s nothing you haven’t experienced before.

Review: Fable Heroes

When thinking of the Fable series a few elements come to mind: your actions having a great impact on the story; a beautiful, changing world for you to explore and live in; and a satisfying feeling once you’ve completed your epic journey. Unfortunately these features are noticeably absent from Fable Heroes, a spinoff hack-and-slash downloadable title for the Xbox 360.

What Fable Heroes does offer is an accessible multiplayer driven experience that any gamer can pick up and play.

Now Playing: Fable Heroes

The Fable series of RPGs meets the cute world of… puppets, in Fable Heroes for the Xbox 360. Capturing the creative world Albion and translating it to a simple form of gameplay that even my nephew can understand, Fable Heroes is a side scrolling beat-em up with an RPG twist. I’ve spent several hours with the game and managed to get through everything the title has to offer, and now I’m here to pass that information on to you.

Review: Legend of Grimrock

As generations of videogame consoles come and go we see vast improvements in many categories: graphics get a huge overhaul, the complexities of gameplay increases, and entire genres are redone to take advantage of each new system’s capabilities. A few casualties are left behind in this transition  like the point-and-click adventure game, 2D platformers, and dungeon crawling role-playing games. However each generation has a select few titles that stubbornly stick to the old formula and emulate the magic of games past, which is the case with Legend of Grimrock for the PC. A difficult, retro style RPG, Legend of Grimrock challenges players to fight for their freedom and escape from Mount Grimrock or be left to rot like countless others.

Worth Playing vol. 4: The Compilation Compendium

What can be better than owning a ton of video games?

Owning a one video game that has a TON of video games all packed in to one disc!

The game compilation is an ideal way for publishers to re-release games and have gamers pay for them all over again, but it is also a great way for gamers to experience titles they may have missed or otherwise skipped over from years past. While some packages are just thrown together without any thought, others are done well and are deserving of your dollar. Here is my list of video game compilations that are very much worth checking out.

Now Playing: Diablo III (Beta)

With the upcoming release date of May 15th rapidly approaching, Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo III is sure to sell like wildfire when it launches on PC and Mac. To test the waters before launch day, Blizzard opened up the beta for everyone to experience this past weekend. And experience I have. The game is nearly completed, so what was available for gamers was a nearly finished product, albeit with some limitations and restrictions due to its beta status. Regardless, Diablo III had many good things going for it. And here they are for you all, just in case you missed your chance to slaughter countless demons a few weeks early.

Sunday Roundup: 4/15/12

Lots of good deals this week, lots of systems, and lots of games for this edition of the Sunday Roundup. Visiting new cities is always an opportunity for myself to venture into uncharted video game stores and sift through their wares, trying diligently to find that gem among all others, the diamond in the rough.

Sunday Roundup: 4/8/12

A light week in terms of new games, but a great week when looking at what the games are! Both are PS1 titles. One is a lot more recognizable than the other, but the other is a big winner in my book.
