Gameplay Vault: All Zombies Must Die!

Zombies have been all the rage lately, haven’t they? I don’t think I even need to go into detail about all the movies, games, and books they’ve been a part of. Because of this overflow of undead, it might be easy to pass by All Zombies Must Die! for the Xbox 360 (or perhaps you might mistakenly think it’s the similarly named Orcs Must Die!). Either way, I’ve been able to put some time into this action-RPG/dual-stick shooting hybrid, and I’ve been pleased with it thus far. I have some videos for you all to enjoy so you can get a feel for the zombies yourself.

The Humble Indie Bundle and Why You Should Buy It

As the holiday season is already in full swing and Christmas is right around the corner, I have been in a spirited mood as of late. No doubt many people like the holidays because of the gifts they’ll receive (I know love it for that reason), but an equal or greater number of people like to give more than receive. As 2011 comes to an end, we as gamers can help out those that really need it this holiday season, and we can score some truly amazing games in the process.

Review: Xotic

The concept was sound: combining the drive for a high score seen in arcade games with the intensity of a first-person shooter. The execution and end result probably looked better on paper than it actually turned out. Xotic (pronounced “Exotic”, because E’s are apparently overrated) is an indie Xbox 360 title that attempts to blend the above mentioned genres together, but instead shows us why some things don’t mix as planned.

Gameplay Vault: Xotic

Xotic is a first-person shooter/arcade style hybrid game released for the Xbox 360. The game is indie in design, but has a lot going for it, including relatively high production values and an interesting premise to say the least. Unfortunately the game just doesn’t work as well as it should. I recorded some gameplay for you all to see, and you can hear my commentary about the game as well. Check it out…

Review: Fusion: Genesis

Space mercenaries have it made, don’t they? Flying around the uncharted cosmos, getting is dogfights with rivals mercs, taking odd jobs to earn small fortunes, and not giving a shit about anyone but themselves. Well rejoice, Han Solo wannabes, because Fusion: Genesis for the Xbox 360 lets you live out your space adventurer dreams.

Gameplay Vault: Fusion: Genesis

A newly released Xbox Live Arcade shooter, Fusion: Genesis combines the action of dual-stick shooting with the upgrading of RPGs. I felt there was a bit too much emphasis placed on the managing of ships and upgrades and not enough focus on the action, but this is still a good title that lets you live out your space mercenary dreams.

Review: Aliens: Infestation

One of the worst ways to die has to be by a facehugger from the Alien franchise. As if having the creature violate your body to plant its seed inside you isn’t bad enough, after some time a baby alien bursts through your chest. In the new Nintendo DS game Aliens: Infestation there are plenty of gruesome ways to meet your demise, not the least of which is being orally assaulted by a facehugger. Aliens: Infestation is an action game that does the movie franchise justice while tossing in a good portion of Metroid-esque gameplay.

Gameplay Vault: Orcs Must Die!

I’ve gotten a lot of play time in with the new Xbox Live Arcade tower defense/action title Orcs Must Die! Last night I decided to plug in the ol’ mic and record some thoughts of the gameplay. The mic work sucks (sorry, first time recording while playing: I’ll improve for future vids), but it’s still a decent video. Check it out.

Sunday Roundup: 10/2/11

Only two downloaded titles come through this week as new purchases. The first is The Binding of Isaac, an indie title released on Steam from part of the creative team behind Super Meat Boy. The second is a PSN exclusive adventure-shooter Rochard, that I can only describe as the PS3’s Shadow Complex with more puzzles.
