Starting a Collection for a New System

It’s been a loooong while since I’ve talked about video game collecting. That’s a real shame considering game collecting is largely what I do in the greater world of video gaming, and in large one of the main reasons I started this blog in the first place. I was reintroduced, if you will, to the collecting spirit while recording the latest Boss Rush episode. In it, Jon and Mat both had stories about getting a Nintendo Switch, and how there are so many great games on them to play. That idea of buying a new console and seeing all the titles newly available to you got me excited about finding those quality, sometimes totally random, games no one else may be playing. Because of this, I started thinking about my PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch collections. While my purchasing power has been limited for the past year or two, the games for said consoles are still releasing, still lowering (or raising) in price, and still becoming something of a collector’s item. With that, I wanted to divulge some tips I have been using to start up a new game collection for the modern consoles. (more…)

Pro Tips for Playing Fire Emblem: Heroes

Nintendo has been cranking out Fire Emblem games fairly consistently over the past couple years, with last year seeing two games in the form of Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and Conquest, and this year seeing Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia releasing in April. Beyond that we’re looking at a crossover Hyrule Warriors style with Koei Tecmo on the upcoming Nintendo Switch titled Fire Emblem Warriors, as well as a yet-unnamed console version coming on the Switch as well. Until those (hopefully) excellent games all release, we are given Fire Emblem: Heroes to toy around with on our mobile devices. Stripping away most of the expected content that makes a Fire Emblem game a Fire Emblem game, Heroes still manages to capture the essence of the series and bring it (for free, mind you) to the masses of iPhone and Android users. For those of you just starting the game, or for you FE mainstays looking to get an edge, here are some pro tips to make your teams successful on the battlefield! (more…)

Pro Tips for Playing Overwatch (on PS4)

Overwatch has, to say the least, been pretty popular. It’s near inescapable in every corner of the gaming universe, with it’s constant updates, plays of the game, funny instances, and overall competitive nature. While the game’s been out for a few months many players have developed their personal strategies for each level, character, occasion, etc., but unless you’re playing the game consistently every day, there are some strategies you might be missing out on. Here are some tips and tidbits that have helped me jump from an average player to a slightly above average player! (more…)

The Subtle Differences in Bravely Second

It’s been out for a few weeks now, and though I haven’t been enjoying it right off the bat as much as I did the first game, Square Enix’s Bravely Second has been an entertaining RPG. There wasn’t anything the game needed to change in order for it to be another solid turn-based game, but the developers still added some extra stuff into that mix. Some stuff are welcome additions, and others are things I didn’t know I wanted or needed! If you’ve somehow never played either game and own a 3DS (shame on you!) then here are some changes you can look forward too when you pick it up and start one of the best RPGs on the 3DS! (more…)

Pro Tips for Playing The Legend of Legacy

Legend of Legacy Logo

A spiritual successor to the beloved old Saga series, being developed by past developers from Square Enix and Level-5, and featuring wonderful visuals and an intricate battle system caused Legend of Legacy to get a small amount of buzz from RPG fans before its release. Regrettably I haven’t played a Saga game, but I have played plenty of RPGs and really love me some Level-5, so I was all on board to give this game a go. A few hours in I found out just how difficult the game was: I was losing to small mobs, getting absolutely devastated by bosses, and generally not having a great time with the game. I stuck with it though, and discovered how to actually play the game. If you were like me and you are struggling to get a foothold in the world of Avalon then use these tips to better your adventuring and conquer even the most difficult of foes! (more…)

Game Hunter’s Journal: The Convenience (and Disadvantage) of eBay

eBay Logo

Online auction site eBay can be a real haven for game collectors. Literally everything you could ever want is on the site. That includes games, specific versions of games, very specific inserts and other stuff included with a game but not necessarily the game, and some other things you didn’t even existed (but now must have!). With everything at your fingertips, it’s easy to get drawn into the black hole that is eBay and never look back. As a game collector you can use eBay to get all kinds of stuff you otherwise would never find, but using eBay the proper way can be challenging.
