Review: Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure

I wish we could solve all our problems by dancing them away like in Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure. Forgot my money at home and need to pay a bill? Just dance and serve food. Need to enter your dog in the dog show but missed the deadline? Well just bark in rhythm with a poodle to gain entrance. Or my favorite, if you’ve found yourself outside of a prestigious event in Paris, improperly dressed, and without a ticket for admission, simply play a few chords on the violin and bam, you’re in. Unfortunately our world isn’t full of that much pizzazz but at least we now have Rhythm King & the Emperor’s Treasure to play on our 3DS’. (more…)

Free Play: Gunbird 2

Free Play is a new series I’ve begun that takes a game and determines whether or not the game is worth your time. Each episode will spotlight one game on any system and in any genre. I’ll analyze the title, looking at the good parts and bad parts about it and judging if the game is worth it to play further. Best part for me, not only does this give me an exciting new feature to rant about, but it also lets me dig through my ever-growing catalog of games!

This episode features the Dreamcast shoot-em up, Gunbird 2.

Now Playing: Rhythm Thief & The Emperor’s Treasure

A little bit Elite Beat Agents, a little bit Professor Layton, and a good sense of originality and you’ve got Sega’s new 3DS title Rhythm Thief & The Emperor’s Treasure. Unfortunately I’ve missed out on Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy so far (though I will purchase that bad boy soon), bu thankfully this second 3DS exclusive rhythm game has kept my attention these past few days. Here’s what Rhythm Thief has going for it so far…

Quick Hits: Nintendo 3DS Demos

Demos have been around for years, but they are strangely completely new to Nintendo. The 3DS got it’s first demo in January with Resident Evil: Revelations, one that I skimped on completely, but this week there were too many for me to pass up. Since they are only demos there wasn’t a significant amount of gameplay to each game, but there was enough to get me excited (or glad I didn’t get the game in one case), which is what a good demo should do. Let’s take a look at each demo one by one. (more…)

This Week in Gaming News: 6/30/12 – 7/6/12

Two big stories concerning the transition to digital gaming and cloud gaming. Not only that, but two big characters (well, only one is actually “big”) are added to the roster of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

And here’s a quick hit for you all: That crazily titled Final Fantasy rhythm game Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy has been receiving very positive reviews. Go buy it!

The Best Hats in Video Games

Hats.
Is there any better way to give your character instant flair and attitude than a hat? Lots of characters wear them, some even using them as weapons or to grant special powers, but who wears them best? Whether it be baseball caps, trucker hats, or the ever-so-sophisticated top hat, these game characters all have one thing in common: their choice of headwear is almost as iconic as the character’s themselves. Sunday Roundup: 7/1/12

Here’s a pro tip that I just learned this week:

Pawn shops are good places to look for games.

There has been a pawn shop in my hometown for years, and I have never managed to venture inside it until last week (Wednesday, to be precise). And I found that not only did they have a healthy selection of vintage coins and jewelry, but also a nice selection of video games. And you know what, most of them were marked at very fair and reasonable prices!

This Week in Gaming News: 6/23/12 – 6/29/12

What’s new this week in games? How about some more Left 4 Dead 2 DLC? Or better yet, a brand new Team Fortress 2 video? And what’s that you say? A new Pokemon game that’s not Black Version 2 or White Version 2? And it sounds interesting to boot? Hmm, I think you’d better read more to get all this week’s news…

Review: LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes

Bruce Wayne wins the Man of the Year award and, wouldn’t you know it, things couldn’t get any worse for the citizens of Gotham. The latest iteration of Traveller’s Tales’ LEGO series of video games is more than most other titles in the series. Not only does LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes feature the Dark Knight and the Boy Wonder, but it also has Superman, the Flash, Wonder Woman, the Green Lantern, and plenty of other DC superstars as playable characters, each with their own set of powers and abilities. Couple the playable characters with a good, funny story and solid cooperative play, and LEGO Batman 2 is a hit for gamers of all ages. (more…)
