Sunday Roundup: 4/21/13

New Games (4-21-13)Moving to California has been an adventure to say the least. We’re not entirely moved in yet, but we’re getting there. After a week of the beautiful weather, I can honestly say video games were not on my radar. But as luck would have it, I still managed to grab a few games, thanks largely to GameStop’s 50% off sale. Even with said sale I picked up some titles that weren’t on promo, but still were a good price. One I was completely shocked with too! Here’s the first haul of the new living location. And here’s hoping for many finds to come! (more…)

The Recurring Bosscast: 013: A Disgrace To Anyone That Has Ever Played A Video Game

Welcome to California!

This week the Bosscast goes into the memory bank and pulls out our fondest moments with LucasArts as the company is no more. This largely means we rant about Star Wars games, point-and-click adventures, and nothing in particular past 2005.

Also this week, amazingly Jett and I both played and hated with a passion the Double Dragon II: Wander of the Dragons abomination on Xbox Live.

Review: Double Dragon II: Wander of the Dragons

Double Dragon II Wander of the Dragons CoverRemaking a classic video game is tricky work. Developers have to capture the essence of the title that made it popular many years back, while updating it to fit the norms and requirements of modern video games. No matter how good the remake may be, some fans will inevitably scoff at the blasphemy the developer has bestowed upon their beloved franchise. Some of these remakes are excellent, such as 2012’s Double Dragon: Neon, a wonderful blend of cooperative combat, cheesy humor, and 80’s flair with great appeal to both old fans and new gamers. And then there are games like Double Dragon II: Wander of the Dragons that has so little in common with the source material and it’s riddled with utterly broken game design that it’s a disgrace to those that enjoyed any previous Double Dragon game. Game Hunter’s Journal: Pricing

Wario MoneyEvery video game collector has their own reasons for collecting games. For me personally it’s the thrill of owning a great title, preserving video games as an art form, and a more personal goal of simply owning every game released on the Sega Dreamcast. No matter what your reason or reasons may be for getting into game collecting, at some point you’re going to deal with money. Dollars and cents in the game collecting hobby mean more than just how much you spent on a game: it’s also the overall value, personal value, and current selling price. Here are some tips for pricing your collection and determining the best time to buy a game. (more…)

Sunday Roundup: 4/7/13

New Games (4-7-13)Well folks, this is it. My very last Sunday Roundup whilst living in the wonderful state of Indiana. This coming Friday I’ll be making my move across the country to live in sunny California! Seeing as this week was the last full week I’d be in the Hoosier state, I decided to take it upon myself to go out with a bang. Well, at least in the video game collecting department. Rather than himming and hawing over a few dollars for a game, if I saw a game I wanted I just bought it. There aren’t too many great stores in the area I’m moving to in Cali, so I decided to take advantage of the wonderful selection I have here in Indiana one more time. So let’s get this thing started, shall we?

I had this episode planned for some time now, but the only issue holding me back from recording was actually getting some games with nasty stickers on them! Crisis averted,…

Gaming News: 3/30/13

The Wolf Among Us Title CardPAX East wrapped up only for GDC to begin. That’s a lot of conventioning for any one person. Oddly, at least for me, I didn’t really see any crazy new announcements this week or news story that stood out to me as being particularly amazing.

That being said we’re still getting some new titles, not the least of which being another episodic venture from The Walking Dead developer Telltale Games! (more…)

Where is the Luigi Love?

Paper LuigiEveryone knows Mario.

He’s Nintendo’s mascot. He’s a portly plumber who wears a red shirt and denim overalls. He frequently travels the Mushroom Kingdom to thwart the evil Bowser’s plans and rescue Princess Peach. He’s an all around good guy who get’s a lot of play time in all things Nintendo.
