Sunday Roundup: 10/28/12

Slow weeks are good for my wallet, which I have to give a break every once in a while. And when the games (or in this case the singular game) I get are quality titles like this week’s, and at a reasonable price point, I don’t mind as much. When will the next big week strike Slick Gaming? Hmm, I’m thinking next Sunday is already shaping up to be a good one…

So apparently there’s going to be a Borderlands game for iOS? And what’s better is that it’s coming out next week! I’ve already got my five bucks ready to throw away for this one.

On to other news: the newest Professor Layton is looking sharper than ever, PAX expands to Australia, and Zynga isn’t doing so well. (more…)

Review: Skylanders: Giants

Last year’s release of Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure surprised everyone with its ridiculously successful fusion of toys and video games. With this success it was inevitable that Activision would make a sequel, and here we are one year later with Skylanders: Giants. Taking the best parts of the first game and expanding them to new heights, Giants is everything you’d want in a sequel and is possibly this generation’s Pokemon. (more…)

Review: Professor Layton and the Last Specter

Just in time for the fifth game in the series, and nearly one year after its initial release, Professor Layton’s first adventure, and last on the DS, has once again proved to me that puzzle games and English accents should always go hand-in-hand. Professor Layton and the Last Specter is the first in a prequel trilogy detailing the eponymous archeologist’s first meeting of series favorite Luke, as well as newcomer Emmy and another adventure full of mystery, puzzles, and tons of diversions to keep you entertained after the curtain has closed. Though I didn’t find it as entertaining as previous romps, The Last Specter is a solid title that is one of the best puzzle games on the aging system. (more…)

Review: Retro City Rampage

What started out as a side project has turned into one of the biggest trips down memory lane for anyone who grew up in the 80s or 90s. Retro City Rampage pays homage to countless movies, TV shows, and video games from decades past, all wrapped up in an 8-bit package. The nostalgic setting and pop culture humor though make Retro City Rampage a game for a specific type of player.

Sunday Roundup: 10/14/12

I have a small confession to make: this is a culmination of two weeks worth of games. I was unable to get my Sunday Roundup done last week on time, and as you’ll see I had plenty of games to put together a solid week’s worth of titles for you all. But one thing lead to another and I wasn’t able to publish my weekly article. But fear not! The Sunday Roundup has not gone away, and it is back, better than ever. Or at least it’s back. Being better is totally subjective.

Gaming News: 10/13/12

Darkstalkers is coming back. Even if it is in a re-release, at least it’s something for fans to hold on to!

Also this week, there were ups and downs for Borderlands 2 players, including an early release of some DLC, a bug that erased some players game data, and then an announcement for even newer DLC next week!

And if you frequented SlickGaming this past week and enjoyed my Pokemon posts, then you’ll be entertained by a unique parody game by PETA concerning the ethical treatment of Pokemon animals. (more…)
