Review: Dungeon Defenders

What’s going on here? Two tower defense mash-up games for the Xbox 360 in one month? And they’re both pretty darn good to boot? Coming hot off the heels of Orcs Must Die! is Trendy Entertainment’s Dungeon Defenders, a combination of the tower defense and action RPG genres. With an emphasis on hacking and slashing through foes instead of strategically placing towers, Dungeon Defenders places you in the middle of the action as hordes of enemies storm your castle.

Review: Guardian Heroes

Treasure has the right idea: rereleasing critically-acclaimed and hard-to-find classic games for a new generation of gamers with updated HD visuals and a much friendlier price tag. Last month saw the release of side-scrolling shooter classic Radiant Silvergun, and Treasure once again delivers sweet nostalgia in the form of Guardian Heroes. A beat ‘em up in the same vein as Double Dragon or Final Fight, Guardian Heroes first met praise on the Sega Saturn for its satisfying action and multiple branching paths. Fifteen years after its initial release, Guardian Heroes still retains some of that charm although the shine is starting to tarnish.

Gameplay Vault: Dungeon Defenders

After having a grand time with Orcs Must Die!, I decided to delve even deeper in the genre that is tower defense and downloaded Dungeon Defenders for the Xbox 360. Another tower defense/RPG title, Dungeon Defenders has a focus on multiplayer co-op and grinding out levels as you would in a game like World of Warcraft. Well, a game with this many comparisons has to be somewhat decent, and not surprisingly it is. Check out the videos and see for yourself.

Review: Aliens: Infestation

One of the worst ways to die has to be by a facehugger from the Alien franchise. As if having the creature violate your body to plant its seed inside you isn’t bad enough, after some time a baby alien bursts through your chest. In the new Nintendo DS game Aliens: Infestation there are plenty of gruesome ways to meet your demise, not the least of which is being orally assaulted by a facehugger. Aliens: Infestation is an action game that does the movie franchise justice while tossing in a good portion of Metroid-esque gameplay.

Review: Mercury Hg

It doesn’t get much simpler than the Mercury series: guide a blob of the titular element through a maze and into the goal. And you know what? It’s pretty damn fun. Mercury Hg brings the PSP puzzler to consoles in glorious HD. At the low price point of $5 Mercury Hg will cure your itch for a new puzzle game, even if the experience is over rather quickly.

Left 4 Dead Plushies Vids

As I’ve stated before, my girlfriend is awesome and she got me these sweet Left 4 Dead plushies for our two year anniversary. After I found out that the Hunter didn’t work properly, I sent him in to Valve to get a replacement. Nearly two weeks went by but I finally have a fully functional collection of adorable cotton zombies! I made a few quick videos accenting the sound effects each makes. As far as toys go, these are awesome!

Now Playing: Dungeon Raid (iOS)

I’m not one to put in a good deal of time into games for my iPhone, but I’ve sure been enjoying this game. Dungeon Raid (Lite or the $.99 edition) is sort of like Puzzle Quest and sort of not. As far as free games go for the iPhone, or dollar games for that matter, this one stands up with the best puzzle games out there. I’ve got some pics for you as well, if my enthusiasm isn’t enough for your interest to be piqued.
