Is there a series more associated with the horror name than Castlevania? There’s zombies, ghosts, wolfmen, vampires, and every other spooky thing that goes bump in the night in just about all of the games in the series. Lament of Innocence is one of the better 3D games in the franchise, which isn’t saying much because I think at the time the only other competition was from the awful Nintendo 64 games. It also happens to be, as far as I know, the earliest game in the Castlevania timeline, taking place centuries before the likes of Richter, Simon, Trevor, and others took up the name. Worth playing is the gist of what I hear about it, but I’ve only really done the intro levels and that’s it.

Happy Halloween!
What better way to celebrate the holiday than with a game that has you torture and kill your enemies! The entire Deception franchise is such an interesting concept, I’m so surprised that the series stuck around for as long as it did, with the PS4’s Deception IV releasing in 2015. The whole concept here is about setting increasingly elaborate traps to defeat and eliminate the occupants of whichever room or hallway they so happen to be in at that time. Kagero and the whole franchise are niche titles, but if you can put up with the somewhat slow pace, it can be a rewarding experience.

I have this mini-debate with myself about every two weeks, thinking if I should finally start playing Diablo IV. If the picture here isn’t a giveaway, I have still yet to make that decision. That’s kind of a surprising one, given that I actually really do enjoy the entire Diablo franchise (and I even enjoyed the D4 Beta awhile back). It’s even more of a relevant debate given the recent release of Diablo IV’s first expansion pack. So one of these days... one of these days I’ll roll that first character and get back into slaying hundred of thousands of demons in Hell and beyond.

One of the big draws to Demon Throttle is that it is only a physically released game: there is no digital copy of this one. I think that’s an... interesting choice. I’m a collector through and through so I would prefer the digital version, but it’s got to be a mistake to not have this offered to anyone digitally. It’ll reach so many more people that way. But you know what, now we have a cool collector’s item, that maybe only a few know about. The game itself is a retro style arcade side scrolling action shooter. At least I think it is... haven’t popped this one out of the package just yet.

Capcom has been delivering a lot of solid Resident Evil for fans of the zombie survival horror as of late. Though with respect, I do not think RE3 remake was as well received as the RE2 remake, but I digress. I played through all of the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 games on the original Playstation, but just couldn’t get through 3. I don’t think it was lack of quality, I just think I wasn’t really into it at the time. Reviews say it’s fairly solid, but what do you all think? Better than the original?

Hmm, where did I get this one? I honestly do not remember... the box art alone looks like something I’d be interested in though. Checking online, Disciples is a series of RPGs dating back to the late 90s. I do not think I know much at all about the games, but see this PS4 one is a spinoff of sorts and might be an action RPG? Really not sure though, as I don’t see much online about it. Any fans of this one out there that can tell me more about it?

Pac-Man has silently been releasing some solid clone games over the past several years, with Pac-Man World Rally being a competent kart racer that will absolutely live in the shadow of Mario’s racers. I spent about an hour with the game about a year back and it... wasn’t awful. In fact, I wouldn’t mind playing it again. I think racing games generally need to have solid controls to at least be enjoyable. It helps when the world/courses are well made, and Pac-Man World Rally has some fun tracks. Will is ever replace your group’s love with Mario Kart Wii? Absolutely not. But is it something fun to try for an evening? Absolutely maybe.

One of the last games I got to review while working with Machinima’s Inside Gaming blog happened to be Mario’s last Party on the Wii. The game was solid in my opinion, offering great minigame, fun boards, and honestly a good time with friends. I understand the criticism about not being like a board game, but meh, it wasn’t always about the boards to me. And thankfully this one has some solid mini-games to keep in afloat. Also worth noting, the developers of the Mario Party franchise shifted to NDcube with this game, from previous developers Hudson Soft. However, NDcube is a Nintendo subsidiary, and is actually made up of past Hudson employees. So the series continues as you’d expect.

I played the first Mario Party when it first released on the Nintendo 64 way back in 1998, and then essentially skipped the next 7 games, including this one here, before playing Mario Party 9 (also on Wii). I liked that one so thought it’d be fun to check out Mario Party 8. But it just wasn’t as fun in my opinion. The “Traditional” gameplay on the big board was there, even though I wasn’t every really offended by the whole party kart thing. But damn if Mario Party 8 isn’t slow. The game just loads forever, and there’s so much downtime between mini-games it’s boring. I am happy that newer games have addressed this, and the quality of mini-games remains high!
