Cross off Blizzard on the list of big gaming companies that have had their networks hacked. Speaking of companies who have been hacked, Valve had an interesting tidbit on their Team Fortress 2 site this week. And Sony made a few headlines regarding The Last Guardian and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
Team Fortress 2 might be getting another faction? Or something…
So there was this letter that was found on the Team Fortress 2 official page. The letter talks about the three siblings of the fortune the Red guys and Blue guys are fighting for in the game (You probably didn’t even know there was a story!). Previously there was only two known factions in the game, but this letter is hinting that a new third faction might be out; the Gray faction. Perhaps this will come with a new game mode? Valve is always hushed about their titles though, so we’ll just have to wait and see. (Source: TF2 Blog)
Uh Oh. Blizzard was hacked
In a bit of unfortunate news, gaming giant Blizzard reported unauthorized access in one of its networks, compromising Battle.Net user’s screen names, security questions, and possibly financial information. Blizzard was quick to update users with info on what had happened as well as what now HAS to happen with each gamers account, including changing passwords and security questions. I am positive Blizzard will get the problem amended soon, but the fact of the matter is these hacks into big name business are starting to get a little scary. Sony Abandoned The Last Guardian’s trademark
I’ll admit, when I first read the headlines and tweets about this one, I was a bit panicked. Sony wasn’t going to create The Last Guardian after all these years of speculation and anticipation?! But what all this really means is that Sony had trademark rights to the name that ended this week because the company didn’t renew the license. Which they can still do. Better yet, Sony released a statement saying they have not stopped development on The Last Guardian. Whew, dodged a bullet there. (Source: Joystiq)
The Ouya Kickstarter finished with a whopping $8 million
The campaign to create a new type of home console has come to an end. And what an end! Ouya, a new video game console that utilizes Android technology as well as OnLive support, is likely going to be the real deal, as the system’s creators were hoping for just under one million dollars in public funding. Well, the project got eight times that amount. Finishing up at $8, 583, 769, the Ouya Kickstarter is one of the most financially successful Kickstarter’s I’ve ever heard of. Needless to say I’m very interested in this console. Juuuust not interested enough to pledge any money to the project. Or maybe I’m just broke, I don’t know. (Source: Kotaku)
Jet Set Radio is coming back in September
The Dreamcast classic graffiti game Jet Set Radio is poised to make an HD re-release this coming September (the 19th to be exact). Xbox 360 and/or PS3 owners can then experience one of the most unique games Sega’s last console had to offer. And at just $10 it’s a steal! (Source: Machinima)
More characters revealed via leak for PlayStation All-Stars
Another week, another leak. I’m starting to think these were actually planned. Anyhoozle, this week it looks like the characters Sackboy from LittleBigPlanet, Raiden from Metal Gear Solid, and Crash Bandicoot from Crash Bandicoot are all slated to appear in the star-studded cast. I for one am hoping at least the inclusion of Crash is true, mainly because I can’t see a game being called “PlayStation All-Stars” not include him. (Source: Machinima)
