Gaming News: 10/20/12

This week we’ve got lots of game updates!

Xbox 360 Minecraft players were delighted to finally get a long overdue update, while Borderlands 2 players who are currently enjoying their first batch of DLC can sweat with anticipation for the next round of content that was rumored this week.

Big news this week concerning gaming website IGN as well. Read on and find out all that you needed to know this week in gaming news!

Next Borderlands 2 DLC ousted by Trophy listing?

Hot off the heels of last weeks first batch of DLC, Captain Scarlett and her Pirate’s Booty, the next round of DLC for Borderlands 2 may already be known. A listing of Trophies for the PS3 show three trophies for something called Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Chaos. Torgue is one of the weapon companies in the Borderlands world, and seeing as this is essentially how the first DLC was discovered for the game, this is likely the newest DLC. Gearbox hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but I’m betting a campaign of chaos is every Vault Hunters future. (Source: Machinima)

IGN has been put up for sale; asking price of $100 million

Video gaming mega site IGN has been listed by it’s parent company News Corp for sale. IGN, which houses more than just video game info and reviews, is one of the premiere online sources for gaming news and fun, so it’s listing comes as a shock to some. News Corp originally purchased IGN for around $650 million back in 2005, and now the lower asking price suggests poor performance from the site. Hopefully this isn’t the end of IGN, because they have a very talented staff that create unique and entertaining content that thousands of gamers enjoy daily. (Source: The Verge)

Obsidian’s Kickstarter page sets new record; raises $3.9 million

Obsidian Entertainment, the folks behind classic titles like Fallout: New Vegas, Knights of the Old Republic II, and Alpha Protocol, have outdone themselves on Kickstarter. The developers were asking for $1.1 from the public to fund Project Eternity, a party-based PC RPG akin to the old Baldur’s Gate titles. Well the Kickstarter page came to a close this week, and the project raised an astounding $3.9 million! Fans clearly were behind the project from the beginning, and with all the excess money Obsidian is planning on adding tons more content than originally thought. The game isn’t due out any time soon, but you can start getting excited now. (Source: Kotaku)

Bioshock Infinite drops two developers; scheduled for 2013 release

Acclaimed FPS series Bioshock hasn’t seen a new game since 2010’s Bioshock 2. The third game in the series, Bioshock Infinite is easily one of the most anticipated games of the year, and now it’s not going to be making it this year. The game was already pushed back from it’s initial release date (which was this week actually) to a 2013 date, but now the team has lost two more developers. Irrational Games, the development company behind the series, may be having some struggles getting the game through it’s final phases, but hopefully they can get everything worked out soon. Ken Levine, the game’s designer, is still working on the game, so fans can take some comfort in that. (Source: Machinima)

Xbox 360 Minecraft received a huge update

Though I’m not a player I have several friends that were enthralled by Minecraft’s update this week for the 360. The world-builder sim received a much overdue update, adding tons of new content (like Creative Mode, additional soundtracks, updated graphics, updated combat mechanics, and much more) that PC gamers I’m told were already enjoying for quite some time now. Nonetheless, Xbox 360 gamers can now enjoy a lot more freedom from their Minecraft worlds. (Source: Game Informer)

Wii U Scribblenauts Unlimited will feature Nintendo characters

Finally this week, it was revealed that the game Scribblenauts Unlimited for upcoming game system Wii U will allow users to create Mario, Luigi, Link, and other Nintendo characters using his magic notebook. While I’m interested for sure in the game, this only makes me want to play the game more! Game creator 5th Cell stated the game would feature more than just Mario and Zelda, as you can also utilize lots of objects from those worlds as well. Mario and Zelda are the only two Nintendo themed series’ in the game, but there are more than just characters to play with. Sadly, the 3DS version of the game will not be getting these additional characters. 5th Cell’s Jeremiah Slaczka said it was due to timing, and the 3DS game being already completed and moved to production when Warner Bros. and Nintendo signed the deal. Oh well, some is better than none! (Source: IGN)
