So apparently there’s going to be a Borderlands game for iOS? And what’s better is that it’s coming out next week! I’ve already got my five bucks ready to throw away for this one.
On to other news: the newest Professor Layton is looking sharper than ever, PAX expands to Australia, and Zynga isn’t doing so well.
Borderlands Legends is heading to iOS next week
The biggest shock for me and I’m sure many other gamers this week was the announcement that there’s going to be a Borderlands game for Apple’s iPhone and iPad devices. Called Borderlands Legends, the game will feature the cast from the first game in a loot-driven RPG that will capitalize on the iPhone/iPad’s unique touch sensitive controls. Oh, and probably what’s best about this is that the game is coming out next week! I’m not one to purchase games for my phone, but this seems like one I might have to pick up! (Source: Kotaku)
G4TV’s X-Play and Attack of the Show are done at the end of the year
Following news of the company’s shift of focus to a more GQ and Esquire audience, G4 announced this week that shows X-Play and Attack of the Show will definitely be no more by the end of the year. This isn’t shocking news to anyone following games in the media, as the announcement that G4 was going to end came a month ago. This week though gamers were a bit scared to see that G4 had cancelled the two shows, sending TV-watching gamers into a bit of a panic thinking their shows were off the air abruptly. Thankfully though, for the staffs of the shows and for the fans, the shows will play out episodes until the very end comes in December. That was a close one! (Source: Game Informer)
The company famous for Facebook social games like FarmVille and most of the other games your Facebook friends are pestering you with requests for has laid off 100 employees. Zynga has been on a sort of downhill slide as of late, losing tons of money from investors, lots of fans and players of their games of Facebook and iPhones, as well as not putting out anything I personally have had any interest in since Words with Friends. PAX Australia is happening in Melbourne next July
Though it was announced more than a week ago, Mike and Jerry over at Penny Arcade have decided on Melbourne as the location for their new Penny Arcade convention in Australia. The chances I’ll every go to this are extremely unlikely considering I live (like most Americans) conveniently between both Seattle and Boston for PAX Prime and East respectively, but the fact that our game playing friends down under can experience the awesomeness that is PAX much closer to home is just great. Power to you, Mike, Jerry, and the rest of the PA crew! You guys are doing the gaming culture a great service! (Source: PAX Australia)
Halloween-themed Team Fortress 2 update is upon us
The fourth annual Scream Fortress update to free-to-play shooter Team Fortress 2 was released this week. The free update brings a spooky themed look to the game, complete with pumpkins and even zombies! As with past updates, it’s only here for a limited time (through November 8th), so play while you can. And play you should, as there are unique items, modes, and achievements you can only get during this promo event. If nothing else, it’s a excuse to hop back on and see why TF2 is one of the better class based first-person shooters out there. (Source: TF2 Blog)
