Moving to California has been an adventure to say the least. We’re not entirely moved in yet, but we’re getting there. After a week of the beautiful weather, I can honestly say video games were not on my radar. But as luck would have it, I still managed to grab a few games, thanks largely to GameStop’s 50% off sale. Even with said sale I picked up some titles that weren’t on promo, but still were a good price. One I was completely shocked with too! Here’s the first haul of the new living location. And here’s hoping for many finds to come!
 Child of EdenXbox 360 Release Date: June 14th, 2011 Purchased at: GameStop (San Francisco, CA – $8) I found myself in San Francisco this past Wednesday for work (more on that in a later post!). As I always do when exploring a new place, I sought out some video game stores. To avoid turning off the company I was with I decided a visit to GameStop would suffice for checking out what San Fran had to offer. I stated before that GameStop had a 50% sale, and Child of Eden is a game that fell into that promotion. I originally played the game at PAX East 2011 and thought it was pretty sweet. And now that our living space is big enough for Kinect (And Laura has a Kinect) I thought it’d be nice to pick this one up cheap. |
 Dance Dance Revolution UniverseXbox 360 Release Date: March 27th, 2007 Purchased at: GameStop (San Francisco, CA – $1) Round number two for this one! I’m hoping this time the game actually works. It’s not looking so great so far, as the disc itself is pretty banged up with a lot of smudges and a few scratches on the bottom. But for only one dollar I can’t be too upset if I miss the mark yet again with this one. |
 Harvest Moon: Magical MelodyWii Release Date: August 25th, 2009 Purchased at: GameStop (San Francisco, CA – $16) This was quite a shocker to find. Not only is it a brand new, sealed Harvest Moon game, but it’s also a collector’s edition as noted by the small 10th Anniversary logo in the top left corner. And then there’s that weird slap watch… I don’t know if that’s actually a real promotional item from Natsume or if it’s some crap GameStop threw on there. But either way, for that price it was a great find. Also worth noting, this is an enhanced port of the same game on the GameCube. |
 Target: TerrorWii Release Date: April 22nd, 2008 Purchased at: GameStop (San Francisco, CA – $5) Target: Terror is an on-rails shooter by Konami that has you blasting terrorists on famous US landmarks including the White House. The game is apparently terrible and has some poor visuals, but I had to pick it up for two reasons. The first was the price: five bucks for a shooter is a good price in my mind. Making it a good price is the second reason I had to buy it: sentimental reasoning. They had a Target: Terror arcade machine while I was at college and though I never played it the game now has a special place in my heart. And now it has a space in my collection! |
 Tetris: Axis3DS Release Date: October 2nd, 2011 Purchased at: Best Buy (Valparaiso, IN – $8) A brand new game at Best Buy turns up to be the last game I bought in Indiana before the move! Tetris: Axis isn’t the greatest version of Tetris but it does do something I fancy with any Tetris port/remake: it tries something new. The game attempts to utilize the 3DS’ stereoscopic 3D feature in the classic puzzle gameplay. It also features up to 8-player online and offline multiplayer, and multiplayer Tetris is awesome. |

Great finds! Especially Trtris Axis and the Harvest Moon game!
I’ve heard good things about Child of Eden. Do you know if a Kinect is required to play it, or is it just suggested?
It says “Better with Kinect” on the box, so I’d assume that means you can play it with a controller as well. I’ve only played it via Kincet though, so I can’t speak of the quality without it 🙂
So have you located and scoped out the nearby thrift stores yet? 🙂
Funny you should ask, we were thinking of doing that today! There are actually several Goodwills around my area and I’ve been to a few of them. I want to go to the ones I haven’t been to yet to see what they have to offer.
Historically one Goodwill here has been good to me. I found complete in box NES games and Japanese import PSP games!
