Some of you may already know that I’ve been reading a few video game themed comic books as of late. I wrote an article or two a few months back about some of the various Mega Man comics/mangas, and I am still reading and enjoying those series’. More recent Jsick news is that I’ve been reading and loving the old Sonic the Hedgehog comics by Archie. So much so that I’ve decided to create a brand new section here on Slick Gaming for you all to experience and enjoy the comics with me! Here’s, I’ll give you a little tour…
Go ahead a take a look at the top of the page. You should see the “Comics” tab already, and hovering over it or clicking it will bring you to a few pages I’ve already made. I’ve only completed my reviews/collections of the first three volumes of the Sonic Archives graphic novels, which collects the original Sonic the Hedgehog series by Archie Comics in it’s entirety. Go ahead and check it out now, I won’t be mad. And I’ll be here when you get back!
Along with summaries of each story contained in each issue, I also list a few interesting facts about that particular issue. Tidbits like the first appearance of recurring characters, or obscure references to movies or music, and even instances where the series contradicts itself or breaks the fourth wall. It’s a trivia lovers dream, and I’m more than happy to dig up all the fun facts for you to enjoy!
I’ve also taken some pictures of a few random panels for you to get a sneak peak into the issue. And by “random panels” I mean a panel that has a particularly horrible pun. Believe me, I was in no short supply of bad puns to choose from, hence the “Most Punny Moment” feature for each issue. Unfortunately, later issues don’t tend to have many, if any, puns to include in this section, so enjoy it while it lasts!
Expect updates to the Comics section to trickle in each month, as it’s not my main priority to write these comic reviews. It’s more of an extra side project to the site that still focuses on games. That being said, I will expand the Comics section further to include more video game-centric comics. It’s likely the next candidate for the section will be Mega Man. If not the blue bomber, the more of the blue blur, as he also has another series of graphic novels I’m currently reading as well. With Street Fighter and plenty other video game comics already having caught my eye, there could be a lot more content for comic fans in the future.
But until then, enjoy the brand spanking new Comics section on the site! If you have any recommendations for comics for me to check out I’d love to hear about them. Thanks as always, and enjoy!
Here, have three quick links to each page:
