Sunday Roundup: 6/30/13

A Witch’s Tale caught my attention with it’s heavily Japanese influenced art style as well as the publisher, NIS. The game is a unique take on the RPG genre and uses only the stylus to play and control the game. Review for the game are alright, but the selling price on other sites is much higher than $6, something I didn’t realize until after I picked up the game. A fun new title and an investment. Awesome!

Recommended by a fellow collector, I spent many months trying to track down this game (itself a compilation of two arcade shooters) only to find the game in abundance at this particular GameStop. They had a new copy for $20 and one used copy for just $5. If he liked it, I’m sure I’ll like it. Especially seeing as I’m a big fan of arcade shooters and Sega has produced some excellent shooters in their day (House of the Dead, Ghost Squad, etc) I’m willing to give this game a chance!

My brother bought this game for me knowing that I didn’t have it in my collection and thinking I’d enjoy it as a collector’s piece. He was right. Strangely, I’ve yet to see any of the Riddick movies, but I have played the enhanced remake of this game on the Xbox 360, Assault on Dark Athena, and didn’t particularly care for it. Regardless, this original Xbox game is still factory sealed and even though it’s not especially hard to find, it’s a great game to have, one of the best on the Xbox, and a very thoughtful gift!

I’ve seen this game for years now and never bought it because my girlfriend owns the game. Despite this, she only owns a loose copy, so I decided that $3 was a good price to get another copy of the game (which is apparently great) as well as the case and artwork. Nothing beats cheap prices for good, complete games!

Pronounced “Project Cross Zone”, this 3DS crossover title is up next on the review plate. Bringing together heroes and villains from Sega, Namco, and Capcom’s catalog, Project X Zone is a zany action/strategy title that is sheer fan service. I already dabbled in the demo and was impressed by the amount of characters present, but had absolutely no idea what was going on, how to play the game, and who some of the characters were. Expect a full review in the coming weeks.

The final (as of this writing, at least) release in the River King franchise, Mystic Valley is kind of like Harvest Moon if it was solely focused on fishing. There’s more to do than just that, but for me it’s essentially a fishing sim. For the price I couldn’t say no!

Another cheap one, Spore Creatures is a spinoff/DS version of the proper PC title Spore. Somehow I’ve never played the PC game despite it’s notoriety. This game is more focused on the actual creature phase of your creations life, as opposed to just about every possible phase in the PC game. Aside from having a cute cover and being complete, I was honestly surprised by how damn heavy the thing was! There’s a rather lengthy instruction manual included, as well as an equally robust Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection manual.
