Finding TWO fantastic gaming deals at Goodwill in one week!
Last week’s protip was about hitting up thrift stores to score good games at low prices. This week’s protip is a reiteration of a past tip: always look at thrift stores.
 Baldur’s GatePC Release Date: November 30th, 1998 Purchased at: Goodwill (Lafayette, IN – $3) A PC classic, Baldur’s Gate is one of the first widely successful RPG game’s to use the Dungeons & Dragons system. I am actually guilty of NOT having played this one, but I know a good game when I see one. Actually, I’m looking forward to purchasing the iOS enhanced version that’s coming out this summer, which is great considering the chances of this version actually running on my PC is zero. |
 MystMac Release Date: September 24th, 1993 Purchased at: Goodwill (Lafayette, IN – $2) Fun fact #1: This is the third time I’ve owned a version of Myst. The first was given to me by a friend that was throwing out (Crazy, I know) his old PC games. I actually got the first three games in the series from him. The second time I got the game was, ironically, at Goodwill, but this time it was the Myst: Masterpieceedition, with enhanced visuals and goodies. Fun Fact #2: This is my first Mac game I’ve ever purchased. Also, this version of the game is the first version of Myst. It was first released for Macs in 1993! |
 Rhythm Thief & The Emperor’s TreasureNintendo 3DS Release Date: July 10th, 2012 Purchased at: N/A (received as review copy) I was so excited to score a copy of this game for review. The game looked like it was a fun rhythm game masked in a Professor Layton like setting. And after playing the game for a few hours, I can safely say my assumptions were pretty darn accurate. Rhythm Thief is a good example of how average animation, story, and gameplay can come together seamlessly to create a game better than the sum of its parts. |
 The Lord of the Rings: Enhanced CD-ROMPC Release Date: 1993 Purchased at: Goodwill (Lafayette, IN – $2) I really had no reason to buy this game. I mean sure, it’s The Lord of the Rings, it’s based on the awesomely bad Ralph Bakshi animated films of the 70’s, and it’s an old PC game for only two bucks, but I really have no reason to own it. Until I looked at the back of the box…

 The Witcher 2: Assassins of KingsPC Release Date: May 17th, 2011 Purchased at: Goodwill (Lafayette, IN – $3) Easily the best deal of the week, I actually found a complete version of The Witcher 2 for just $3. The box is a has some wear and tear (namely rough edges), and I think there’s a missing bonus DVD with a special making-of video, but other than that the 2 game discs are here, as well as the bonus soundtrack. And really that’s what I want most. Even as a collector, I’d much rather have the game to play than a movie to watch. Definitely a great find, to say the least! |
Here’s a bonus item for you all this week! It’s gaming related, but it’s not a game. Check out what I scored at Goodwill this week as well:
2 Wii Remotes, 1 Nunchuk, and 1 Wii Motion Plus. All in working order, and all in perfect condition.
The best part? The whole lot you see in the picture cost $9 total!! I did some research, and even if I bought these items used from say GameStop, I’d pay around $100, and they might not be in this good a condition. This week explains perfectly why I shop at Goodwill for games: If you’re persistent you’ll come across gems like these.

Damn dude, those are some pretty sick deals. The Witcher 2 complete for $3?? And that Wii set for $9? Guess Goodwill is where it’s at!
Seriously! I just wish every visit was this successful. But like I said, it’s why I keep going back.
