A game from Indiana, a game from Illinois, a game I’ll likely never play, and a heck of a lot of Skylander’s toys make up this week’s haul. It may be small, but I was happy with the quality and price of each piece this week.
 Science PapaDS Release Date: June 15th, 2009 Purchased at: GameStop (Mishawaka, IN – $3) If you’re thinking, “Hey, this sounds like a Cooking Mama spin-off,” you’d be right! Not wanting Mama to take all the glory (and with a dash of sexism), Science Papa has you playing science related mini-games with the Nintendo DS’s touch screen in a similar nod to Cooking Mama’s gameplay. The game was poorly received though, and the only reason I bought it was because 1) it was $3, and 2) it’s called freaking Science Papa! |
 Resident Evil 3: NemesisPS1 Release Date: November 11th, 1999 Purchased at: Disc Replay (Mishawaka, IN – $6) Not really an impulse buy, but not really a game I was looking to buy, I picked up this one because it was in excellent condition, was the black label version, and I felt like I went on the trip and I owed it to myself to pick up at least one game. I am a fan of the RE series, but I haven’t beaten any game beyond the first two. As a matter of fact, I haven’t even played this game, though if I recall it’s usually regarded somewhat poorly by series fans. Not for the quality of gameplay, but just for not being up to par with the exceedingly popular prior installments. |
 Parappa the RapperPSP Release Date: July 17th, 2007 Purchased at: GameStop (Chicago, IL – $3) Another $3 GameStop game, only this time it’s actually a game that is worth your time. If you missed out on Parappa the Rapper on the PS1 (which I thankfully did not), then the PSP version is a must-buy in my opinion. The game is short and sweet in every sense of the phrase: it’s over in just a few hours, but each and every moment of gameplay is fun, memorable, and easily replayable. Some of the songs from this game are running through my iTunes playlist to this day. That’s saying something! Kick, punch, it’s all in the mind! |
I mentioned some Skylander’s toys in the beginning, and I would have loved to show you the pictures of them, but I am away from home and do not have them with me! Anyway, from the same Disc Replay store that I purchased Resident Evil from, they had two gallon Zip-Lock bags full of Skylander toys. Each bag had about 10 character figures, none of which were repeated, as well as the toys from two expansions (the pirate ship and the ice cave, the proper names elude me). I normally don’t talk much about accessories here, but this is too good to not mention: each bag was just $20! Considering each character toy is roughly $5 used, and each expansion toy (including the two special item toys, which came with the collection, by the way) are around $20 a piece, I’d say this was a no brainer! On top of that, out of the roughly 25 toys, I only already have six of them (three of which being the three starter toys you get with the game). Not a bad haul indeed, and with the sequel, Skylander’s: Giants, on the horizon, I was more than happy to plop down $40 for it all.
