Borderlands is doing it, so why shouldn’t Street Fighter get a huge collector’s edition for gamers to waste spend their money on? Speaking of Capcom, they’ve got a release date for the new Devil May Cry game that is less than a year away.
Not less than a year away? The new XCOM title, which was delayed yet again. Read on to see all of this week’s gaming news highlights.
The new Devil May Cry is coming out in January
Capcom announced this week that the reboot to the Devil May Cry series (I didn’t know it was gone to even warrant a reboot) will be coming out early next year. January 15th, 2013 to be exact. A full 12 years after the first game came out for the PS2, Devil May Cry 2013 (or DmC: Devil May Cry if you’re cool like that) will still be an action game set to the same tone the series is know for, but will feature a teenage version of series protagonist Dante as he does his thing in a parallel universe from the original games. Regardless of hair color, I’m still looking forward to this one. It could be the action game we’ve been waiting for since… what, Devil May Cry 3? (Source: Kotaku)
Shooter XCOM delayed until 2013, possibly 2014
The re-imagining of strategy series XCOM as a shooter has been delayed again. Take Two has placed the game as a “fiscal year 2014” title, meaning it may or may not come out in 2013. XCOM has gotten a lot of press for taking the series in an entirely new direction, whether fans like it or not. My thoughts are that it worked for Fallout, so I’m excited to see what this game has to offer. If it ever comes out, that is. (Source: Joystiq)
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is probably happening
Konami has launched a teaser site (which you can view here) hinting at “The Dragon Returning” on May 31st. The artwork and image given look reminiscent of the previous Lords of Shadow title for the Xbox 360 and PS3. And that date, May 31st, coincides with Konami’s E3 press conference, where it is likely the company will officially announce the game. The first Lords of Shadow was a big departure from the standard formula of the Castlevania series, but it was still pretty damn awesome. E3 is only a week away, so we won’t be waiting much to get our slaying on again. (Source: Game Informer)
Capcom is giving Street Fighter an amazing 25th birthday celebration
Leave it to Capcom to give the fans what they want (unless it’s DLC, on-disc or otherwise). The fine folks behind the fighting game Street Fighter are celebrating the game’s 25th anniversary with a huge collector’s set. The box contains a ton of goodies: Street Fighter X Tekkn, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition (both games come with all DLC packs), Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, as well as a special blu-ray documentary highlighting the series and games, a few anime movies, and the complete anime television series. Oh, and there’s an 11-disc soundtrack collection, art book, and a mid-Shoryuken Ryu statue. Show your dedication and appreciation for the series by forking over a mere $150 for this bundle in September. I…. think I’m buying this. (Source: GameSpot)
38 Studios is shutting it’s doors for good
A follow up from last week’s story, Kingdoms of Amalur studio 38 Studios is going to be shutting down for good. The company has stated financial woes as the reason behind the talented studio’s closure. The studio had over $1 million in debts to pay the state of Rhode Island, and it seems the only way to avoid any more losses was to shut down. It’s a sad day when a talented company and team has to be let go. (Source: Kotaku)
