A World of Games: Captain America and the Avengers

The best games have memorable moments. Sometimes it’s the gameplay itself, sometimes it’s the community around the game, and sometimes it’s the players personal ties to the game.

For Captain America and the Avengers, it’s the voices.

I grew up with this game in my local arcade, and I played a ton of it. This was largely due to the voice acting, which stood out at the time!

Hearing Cap and friends banter between the villains (“You can’t escape!” “You will be the one es-caping!”), or the announcer say your characters name after you select them, and who can forget Red Skull’s quick guttural laugh! All those sounds are ingrained in my mind and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

On top of the memorable voices are a pretty decent 4-player brawler. I don’t think the home console version does this one justice. As far as I can tell a Arcade port was never released either, so if you see this bad boy lighting up your arcade you have to try it out!

Played at Galloping Ghost Arcade in Brookfield, IL 2019.
